Tom Cotton picked apart by Army general over ‘mutinous’ Iran letter
WASHINGTON POST ^ | 13 MARCH 2015 | JONATHAN CAPEHART

The open letter to the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran signed by 47 senators and instigated by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) was a stunning breach of protocol. One so outrageous that my former colleagues at the New York Daily News dubbed the signers “traitors.” While it is indeed a slap in the face of President Obama and an affront to the presidency, I’m not sure I would go that far, especially since Cotton is an Army veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. So, I turned to retired Major Gen. Paul D. Eaton for perspective. He wouldn’t say Cotton and Co. were “traitors,” either. He had a better word.

“I would use the word mutinous,” said Eaton, whose long career includes training Iraqi forces from 2003 to 2004. He is now a senior adviser to VoteVets.org. “I do not believe these senators were trying to sell out America. I do believe they defied the chain of command in what could be construed as an illegal act.” Eaton certainly had stern words for Cotton.

First of all, any general currently remaining in the Armed Forces after the Stalin-level purges that have gone on is by definition an 0bama bootlicker and I use that term in place of several others I can think of.

Secondly, anyone who has some doubts about what a complete lying SOB traitor John Kerry is should listen to the first 15 minutes of Mark Levin’s show.

Your Words:

And apparently utterly ignorant of the Constitution. I’m sure you’ll have an excuse for that too.

Read my posts, I did not defend him, I outed him. You are just some jerk on the internet who wants to spout off. Does your dog know what you are up to? Take a course in English comprehension. Go hug someone who loves you and live well.

Coming from a military guy that understood the seniority of the military (with the President as the commander in chief) I can see his viewpoint.

He is not acting as Commander in Chief in this capacity, so the chain of command argument is not valid. I think Cotton and others knew that Obama was going to try to find some way to get around having any input or approval from the Senate, either before or after these negotiations, and sending this letter was a brilliant way to get that out in the open and to assert the Senate's rightful role - which for this issue in particular, is vitally important.

In his defense...

Probably not. As a Plebe he would have been required to know and recite the front page of the New York Times. As a Yearling he was probably worried about Physics, Math, and Electrical Engineering.

In his defense...

You might be surprised to learn how ignorant those of the Post Vietnam era are about much of what happened, particularly if it put a Liberal in a bad light. West Pointers and General Officers included.

Try some reading comprehension on your own posts, knucklehead. lol

Sorry, I used it first, you have to come up with something better. Think hard, I know that you can.

You think that calling him ignorant, when he was the son of a professional military officer, was one himself, and rose to be a General Officer, was a defense? Houston, we have a problem.

What annoys you is that I did not champion your remarks. You really weren’t interested in entering into an exchange of information or a discussion of ideas, you just wanted to start an argument. Happy now?

I wasn’t annoyed at all. Just impressed at your insistence that my criticism of him had to be wrong.

You made an assertion that you could not possibly have known to be true. You assumed it to be true and then insisted that it had to be so because you had said it. I made no claims either way, I just pointed out the alternate possibilities.

You made the common mistake of thinking that your conclusions must be correct and cannot be assailed. You didn’t like it when I pointed out other possibilities. I know Eaton, do you? I also know the environment that he inhabited in 1970. Do you?

I would never presume to know what he knew or didn’t know back then or even subsequent to it. You did and insisted that you were right. I don’t think much of such claims.

You assumed it to be true and then insisted that it had to be so ...

No, I did not. Not in any post. I stated an opinion and stated it in terms that unequivocally identified it as an opinion. I'll copy-and-paste them for you.

So he was in a position to be very aware of Kerry’s treason at the time and he’s been silent about it for 44 years.

As someone headed for a military career at the height of the Vietnam War it’s not likely he would be ignorant of the anti-war protests and its most famous uniformed protester and treason committed by an officer of the Navy. And he’s had 44 years to hear about it.

There is nothing there claiming an assumption that I was right. It was an opinion clearly stated as an opinion. Of course I thought it was likely (there's that word again) or it wouldn't be my opinion.

I, for one, have consistently been silent about things of which I was ignorant. A lick on me, I suppose. Good night.

It was a speculation. I’m sure I won’t find any speculations in any of your posts. Just false assumptions and false assertions about what I posted that don’t hold water under examination. You really shouldn’t lecture anyone else on reading comprehension.

But it was ok for Pelosi to go behind President Bush’s back and pay a visit to Syrian President. And didn’t John Kerry do the same thing?

Yep, a real success story there....saw those trained troops .... maybe he taught them the art of “throwing down their weapons and fleeing”
