Canadian woman dies after whale jumps on Mexican tour boat

CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO — Mexican authorities say a 35-year-old Canadian woman died from injuries suffered when a surfacing grey whale crashed onto a tourist boat.
Authorities have not yet released her name or hometown.
The Baja California Sur state prosecutor’s office says the collision with the whale less than two kilometres from the Cabo San Lucas resort tossed the victim into the water.

A few years ago, my wife and I took a whale watching boat trip in the same area.
These boat captains often apparently get in macho contests to see who can get closest to the whales when they come up for air. We were too close legally and for safety. We got splashed a couple of times.
