Two police officers have been shot near a protest in Ferguson, Mo.
“Two officers shot in #Ferguson,” St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Susan Weich tweeted at around 12:30 a.m. local time. “Shots came from a house up the hill across from police station … Witness said one of cops shot in face … First officer taken away was white.”

At a press conference at around 2:00 a.m. local time, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said a 44-year-old officer was shot in the shoulder, and a 32-year-old officer was shot in the face. Both were conscious and expected to survive.
“This is a very dangerous environment for officers to work in,” Belmar said. He said while the shots did not come from the protesters, his officers were targeted while in front of the department. “Police officers were standing there and they were shot,” he said....

I wonder what the hate mongers would do if, as a last press conference, the cop spokesman said this: “Residents, the Media, and the US Department of Justice have maligned and impugned the officers of this department. Therefore, effective immediately, we notify the City Manager and administration of Fergusion that its police officers are submitting their resignations at once. Residents of Ferguson will now be responsible for their own security from the criminal element. Therefore, if you don't have a gun, buy one, learn to shoot, learn the rules for deadly force, and protect yourselves.”
I dunno. That might play right into the master plan at the DoJ -- which is to basically federalize local policing functions. Ferguson is the test bed, I think.
Oh sure, the governor will call in the Missouri National Guard to keep a lid on the boiling pot, but what can they do when it comes to real policing? Behind that, Eric Holder's cronies will be selecting the new cops and setting the ridiculous 'rules of engagement' to fit their worldview.

If the Governor of Missouri had a spine, and he doesn’t, he’d tell the Federals to stay the hell out of his state. The county sheriff ought to arrest these a**holes, book ‘em, and throw them in the county jail (after the prisoners were told who they were). Oh, dear Mr. Fed, do our jail prisoners not like you. Pity about that.
Kind of reminds me of what a Marine Lance Corporal told a reporter when he was asked what the US ought to do about Somalia while we deployed there. After a couple of seconds of thought, he said “Arm them, train them, seal the borders”.
They would just contract with St Louis County to have county police patrol Ferguson. Maybe they would have state troopers patrol while the details were worked out. The Ferguson PD is only 54 officers plus 18 civilian support staff. St Louis county PD has 801 sworn officers (all figures from wiki)
Now, how willing St Louis or state troopers would be to patrol Ferguson, is another story.

If the whole Ferguson PD notifies the city fathers that they intend to quit in 24 hours and leave the city residents to fend for themselves. That would really cause a panic. No cops also equals no revenue to the city from fines.
What would you expect the Ferguson government to do in response?

Call St. Louis County Sheriff and contract out the policing to them. And let's be clear, the Ferguson police officers most likely don't have to worry about quitting because I doubt the city will keep the force in operation. There is no way they will be able to pay for all the changes and additional requirements that the Justice Department is about to place on them. From the city's standpoint it'll be cheaper to disband and go with the sheriff.
