Ted Cruz Woos Iowa Ag Summit With Principled Anti-Ethanol Subsidy Stance
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | March 9, 2015 | Dan Riehl in Des Moines, Iowa

Posted on 03/10/2015 4:46:08 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

While Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and some other potential contenders for 2016 opted out of the Iowa Ag Summit this weekend, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was roundly applauded by both the crowd and the media for rejecting the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), an ethanol subsidy that contributes significantly to Iowa’s farming economy.

“Look, I recognize that this is a gathering of a lot of folks who the answer you’d like me to give is ‘I’m for the RFS, darnit,’ that’d be the easy thing to do,” Cruz said. “But I’ll tell you, people are pretty fed up, I think, with politicians that run around and tell one group one thing, tell another group another thing, and then they go to Washington and they don’t do anything that they said they would do. And I think that’s a big part of the reason we have the problems we have in Washington, is there have been career politicians in both parties that aren’t listening to the American people and aren’t doing what they said they would do.”

The crowd responded with what some in attendance described as the strongest applause of the day. Per an earlier report by Breitbart’s Sarah Rumpf, some Beltway media outlets were listening and nodding in approval, as well. Cruz’s handing of the issue ‘”drew praise from a number of conservative media outlets.”(continued)

Now would be the time for Cruz to put up a bill banning all ethanol subsidies with federal funds.........hmmmmmmmmmmm. Will he do it? Will he convince the Senate to pass it? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

It needs to me tied to easing regulations and taxes that hurt farmers and everybody else.

But that is not what Cruz is saying. He is saying get rid of ethanol subsidies.....well again where is the bill in front of Congress? I know he is not just a talker. He supposedly has done a lot so why not add to all his victories?

That's easy; heck, we can do it in one easy to read sentence.

The EPA, USDA, DEA, BATFE, Department of Labor, DHS (and all subsidiary organizations) are hereby abolished; all regulations which which (a) reference these organizations, or (b) were implemented by them are hereby repealed; usage of any federal court case relying on said regulations [even transitively] as precedent is grounds for dismissal of the judge(s) and/or justice(s) involved and forfeiture of all retirement benefits.

The question is which legislators would pass such a bill.

Even the Gordian knot cutter has to have its Gordian knot cut. I laugh to think anyone short of a talented law firm could roll back any of this stuff even if the will existed.

Let me give you a much needed civics lesson - such a bill will not be signed by this President. Nor will a veto be over ridden.

And get over yourself - not every speech or interview has to have a piece of legislation tied to it. No one else had the guts to say this to this Iowa group, ever, far as I can tell. Walker is wrong on this issue I believe....

If Ethanol was useful as a Fuel it would stand on it’s own, and not some EPA taxpayer agenda.

This Iowa group is new this year, and its prime sponsor, Bruce Rastetter, is a nasty piece of work, front man for criminal AJ Decoster.

I suspect there are multiple bills out there calling to ease regulations and cut funding to regulatory agencies.

The “Flexibility to Farm act” was one of the first bills my congressman co sponsored back in 2013.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/?&Db=d113&querybd=@FIELD%28FLD003+@4%28%28@1%28Rep+Walberg++Tim%29%29+01855%29%29

Bills my congressman has introduced.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/?&Db=d113&querybd=@BANDNOT%28@FIELD%28FLD004+@1%2801855%29%29+@FIELD%28FLD008+%28m%29%29%29

Just because the media isn’t screeching doesn’t mean there isn’t legislation out there. There are 535 other representatives and 100 senators producing a lot of paperwork that dies in committee all the time.

The ethanol “subsidies” that were paid to corn growers were ended a couple of years ago.
What remains is the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) also called the “blending mandate”.
The RFS is not a direct “subsidy” (not paid to the grower),
it is an artificial demand that has been created for their product
that “We The People” are required to purchase at the pump.

I suppose it would be fair to call the RFS an indirect “subsidy”,
(kind of like the individual mandate to purchase health insurance)
but it is the big money ethanol plants that make the big bucks,
not the mom and pop farmer.
The ethanol plants are the ones who contract to supply the petroleum refineries.
Then they buy the corn on the as-cheap-as-possible basis from the farmers.

I read the article, and I did not see where Ted says what he proposes to do about it.
The only literal pull quote from Ted in the article is: “I’m for the RFS, darnit”.
I know that is not true...and it is a quote taken out of context,
but the article does not provide us with any other information
as to what Ted would do or what he thinks.

Unfortunately, with what passes for journalism today,
article headlines often do not match the article contents.

Because I am not a Senator.....gosh......we are in deep trouble with the lack of government studies. Cruz is saying this not me. Oh well free pass again. We will just have 16 years of easy life. Speeches without action for the next 8 years too.... I guess we are used to it. oh boy.

Even the Gordian knot cutter has to have its Gordian knot cut. I laugh to think anyone short of a talented law firm could roll back any of this stuff even if the will existed.

Well, we could solve it (and budgeting/debt) with a Constitutional Amendment; here's what I would propose:

Fiscal Responsibility Amendment
Section I
The power of Congress to regulate the value of money is hereby rescinded; the unit of money of the United States is the Dollar.

Section II
The value of the Dollar shall be one fifteen-hundredth avoirdupois ounce of gold of which impurities do not exceed one part per thousand.

Section III
To guard against Congress using its authority over weights and measures to bypass Section I, the ounce in Section II is approximately 28.3495 grams (SI).

Section IV
The Secretary of the Treasury shall annually report the gold physically in its possession; this report shall be publicly available. Any five states may commission a third party audit to confirm this report at their own expense.

Section V
The power of the Congress to assume debt is hereby restricted: the congress shall assume no debt that shall cause the total obligations of the United States to exceed one hundred ten percent of the amount last reported by the Secretary of the Treasury.

Section VI
Any government agent, officer, judge, justice, employee, representative, or congressman causing gold, money, or real estate to be confiscated from a citizen shall be tried for theft and upon conviction shall:
    a. be removed from office (and fired, if an employee),
    b. forfeit all pension and retirement benefits,
    c. pay all legal costs, and
    d. restore to the bereaved twice the amount in controversy.

Section VII
The federal government shall assume no obligation lacking funding, neither shall it lay such obligation on any of the several States, any subdivision thereof, or any place under the jurisdiction of the United States. All unfunded liabilities heretofore assumed by the United States are void.

Section VIII
The federal government shall make all payments to its employees or the several states in physical gold. Misappropriation, malfeasance and/or misfeasance of funds shall be considered confiscation and theft.
Here's six more, dealing with various federal issues which really need dealt with.

Wait.

You can ignore reality by suggesting that Cruz can pass a bill as a single Senator, but I’m not allowed to ignore reality by asking why you haven’t introduced a bill.

You are a hypocrite. Holding others to standards that you do not hold yourself to.
