But that is not what Cruz is saying. He is saying get rid of ethanol subsidies.....well again where is the bill in front of Congress? I know he is not just a talker. He supposedly has done a lot so why not add to all his victories?
Why don’t you introduce the bill?
I suspect there are multiple bills out there calling to ease regulations and cut funding to regulatory agencies.
The “Flexibility to Farm act” was one of the first bills my congressman co sponsored back in 2013.
Bills my congressman has introduced.
Just because the media isn’t screeching doesn’t mean there isn’t legislation out there. There are 535 other representatives and 100 senators producing a lot of paperwork that dies in committee all the time.
The ethanol “subsidies” that were paid to corn growers were ended a couple of years ago.
What remains is the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) also called the “blending mandate”.
The RFS is not a direct “subsidy” (not paid to the grower),
it is an artificial demand that has been created for their product
that “We The People” are required to purchase at the pump.
I suppose it would be fair to call the RFS an indirect “subsidy”,
(kind of like the individual mandate to purchase health insurance)
but it is the big money ethanol plants that make the big bucks,
not the mom and pop farmer.
The ethanol plants are the ones who contract to supply the petroleum refineries.
Then they buy the corn on the as-cheap-as-possible basis from the farmers.
I read the article, and I did not see where Ted says what he proposes to do about it.
The only literal pull quote from Ted in the article is: “Im for the RFS, darnit”.
I know that is not true...and it is a quote taken out of context,
but the article does not provide us with any other information
as to what Ted would do or what he thinks.
Unfortunately, with what passes for journalism today,
article headlines often do not match the article contents.
