The number of Americans who live in a household with at least one gun is lower than its ever been, according to a major American trend survey that finds the decline in gun ownership is paralleled by a reduction in the number of Americans who hunt.
According to the latest General Social Survey, 32 percent of Americans either own a firearm themselves or live with someone who does, which ties a record low set in 2010. Thats a significant decline since the late 1970s and early 1980s, when about half of Americans told researchers there was a gun in their household.
The General Social Survey is conducted by NORC, an independent research organization based at the University of Chicago, with money from the National Science Foundation. Because of its long-running and comprehensive set of questions about the demographics, behaviors and attitudes of the American public, it is a highly regarded source of data about social trends.

When they TOLD researchers...
Not any more.
Don’t tell anyone, not the Doctor, etc.
And be careful boating.
Do they count the millions of gun owners who tell pollsters that they are not gun owners because all of their guns were lost in tragic boat accidents?
LOL! Sounds to me like the NARCs might want to look into what’s going on with the NORCs. Anybody who believes this garbage has been smoking too much bad weed.
On the other hand, our lakes and reservoirs are filling up with guns accidentally lost in canoeing accidents.
At this point, most people with brain cells realize answering ‘yes’ to a question involving ‘Do you own a firearm” is a really BAD idea.
Their survey only records those households willing to tell some stranger on the phone about their guns.
Yeah, a stranger calls - and you tell him what guns you own... yep - that’s gonna happen.
People are smart not to admit to a pole they own a firearm.
Nice try ..
It will be a better show than "Swap Loggers" looking for all these treasures ;-)
Not like there weren’t enough red flags in the media.
Our local lakes are referred to as IRON BOTTOM SOUND I II III IV and V.
What Households?
A high rise government project building stuffed with pigeon-hole apartments occupied by one female and a half dozen kids by various unknown sperm donors might rate as a household in a government survey but is meaningless in this context.
Yeah, I sold one of my handguns this year. I still have plenty.
Never mind “head of household” still being on the tax form.
Sounds to me like the Americans are stockpiling.
The jerks who support the Statists are drawing down.
If you want an explanation for why that survey is meaningless go see this:
I assume you mean that you had plenty at one time, but they were all lost in a canoe tipping accident caused by global warming.
