“We’re building a new way of governing the state. Olympia’s not doing anything, so the power is shifting from Olympia to people like me.” – Seattle billionaire, Democrat financier and far-left activist Nick Hanauer.

For Democrats who depend on his deep pockets, Seattle billionaire Nick Hanauer is a key figure in Washington State politics. He has long financed the far-left’s agenda and Democrat candidates. He is so comfortable with King County Executive Dow Constantine that he demands special treatment via texts. He appears to believe Democrat lawmakers owe him their allegiance—unfortunately, these politicians tend to agree.

But, as we learned during the 2014 mid-term elections, far-left billionaires (like Tom Steyer) don’t always get their way—no matter how much money they pump into Democrat campaigns. According to the Seattle Times’ Danny Westneat, Hanauer isn’t too pleased with lawmakers in Olympia. Specifically, he is quite upset with the impending prospect of Republicans in the state Senate stopping the statewide $12 minimum wage bill, which the state House passed last week.

In fact, Hanauer is so upset he has made an outright threat. He told Westneat that if the Legislature doesn’t pass the $12 minimum wage bill, he would go to the ballot with “a statewide $16-an-hour minimum-wage initiative in 2016.” The initiative, which he calls “$16 in ‘16” is something Hanauer say he is “dead serious” about doing.

In this speech he almost makes sense at times. But, he doesn't seem to understand how to achieve what he preaches. I think it's because his liberal mind clouds his thinking.

I wonder what he pays his low level and unskilled workers.

When a rich person meddles in the life of the public with such matters it is an indication as to the morals of the rich and the methods they used to get the money

All this does is ruin the little guy.

The big retailers and box stores will suffer, but they will cope and most will survive.

The neighborhood stores (what few are left), the small town stores (ditto), the independent guys and gals-—to HELL with them.

As usual all the Leftist power and money in these cases seems to tend toward crushing the individual.

If they raise it to $16, what are they planning to do about people in higher-skilled jobs who already make $16?

so the power is shifting from Olympia to people like me.

On the day you wake up to find that your money is vapor, how much power will you have?

I’ve been thinking about this theory that super rich tend to be liberal for subconscious recognition that placating the poor and credit enslaved contributes to the status quo and therefore secures their wealth and influence.

However, it’s OP [middle class] money mostly that they use. If they used their own money nobody would care.

It seems to me the harder that one has to work to attain an element of success, the more conservative they will become.

IF the republicans were smart and really wanted to have fun they would simply pass a New Wealth Tax, say 5% annually, to be applied to persons with a Net Worth of $1 Billion Dollars or more, All revenues to be distributed equally to those in the State earning Minimum Wage.

Put it right back on Him!

Allow illegals to storm the borders, tax the hell out of people who create jobs, raise the minimum wage, force ObamaScamOcare on employers, yet they want us to believe the unemployment rate is 5.9%

In the speech I linked he talks a good game and like most liberals he paints a pretty picture. But his vision gets cloudy when he tries to articulate how to get there.

He refers to himself and other .01 %ers as plutocrats, meaning they achieve power through their wealth. But he doesn't seem to understand that mush of the separation problem in America is caused by those who achieve wealth through power - the politicians ingrained in the beltway of D.C..

He talks of a new capitalism through business growth and enthusiastic entrepreneurism, but he contributes tons of money to the liberal left that opposes just what he seems to advocate for.

Is he delusional, or just another con-man liar?

There's often plenty of overlap.

This reminds me of how FDR decided that the price of gold should be $35 per ounce. He picked a number out of thin air. He said that 35 is divisible by 7, and 7 is a lucky number.
