Secede? ‘Republic’ Claims Texas Never Joined U.S.
The New York Times ^ | 09 March 2015 | Manny Fernandez

Posted on 03/09/2015 9:28:57 AM PDT by Theoria

The Republic of Texas is unlike any other volunteer, nonprofit organization in what used to be the Republic of Texas.

Its monthly meetings are called joint sessions of congress. Members have minted their own silver and gold currency and carry ID cards warning police officers they are diplomatic representatives of the nation of Texas. Its vice president, a retired telephone company worker, sent a letter in 2011 to the governor of Oklahoma, informing her that she faced indictment because her state’s counties and territories were “trespassing inside the geographical boundaries” of its nation.

Such letters have failed to convince the authorities of the group’s novel belief — that Texas never legally became part of the United States and remains a separate nation. As a result of that belief, the group claims it had a duty to form a government, with a state department and with a court system run in part by a chiropractor in the Houston suburb of Katy.

Members say their government is neither a mock system nor a prank, but a legitimate authority with executive, legislative and judicial branches. They spend their time sitting through eight-hour congressional meetings and debating legislation. (The letter to Oklahoma officials refers to Senate Bill No.1102-1201.) Still, officials who receive one of the group’s many letters typically “just throw it in the trash can,” acknowledged the Republic’s president,John Jarnecke,72.

Until last month.

The group’s Valentine’s Day meeting in Bryan had barely started at a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall-each woman in the audience had been handed a rose — when several local, state and federal law enforcement officials burst through the door. No one was arrested in the raid, which included F.B.I. agents, but dozens of the group’s supporters were detained.

Meanwhile Obama supports the secessionist movement in Hawaii and the Times doesn’t care.

I would be more than happy to see Hawaii lose all its representatives and both Senators to the Congress as well as its membership in these United States.

I wonder if mere possession of one of these coins could be criminal.

I know that prop and play money is stamped with NOT LEGAL TENDER.

The Times doesn’t care that Obama voted against raising the debt ceiling as a Senator either.

“Not charged but held...” If this is really what supporters of big government want, we should get it out in the open. They’ve yet to say, “we want you Christian patriots who beleive in the constitution dead, permanently marginalized, or otherwise silenced.” They’ve said it in roundabout ways, but candor like that would really help us set some goals, and maybe get some politicians on our side.

The state would remain in the Union. But those who want to opt out by claiming to be natives could do so.

That argument is not tolerated for those who trace their family history to before the founding of Texas.

Hawaii gov. lobbies Senate on secession
AP ^ | 9/7/5 | ALEXANDRE DA SILVA

HONOLULU - A delay in a U.S. Senate vote on a bill that would grant federal recognition to Native Hawaiians is giving Hawaii’s governor a chance to lobby senators who fear it could lead to Hawaii’s secession from the union.

“That’s a ridiculous claim and a ridiculous argument,” Gov. Linda Lingle said. “We have over 500 recognized Indian tribes in America. They don’t secede. They simply get a federal recognition that allows them to avoid these kinds of lawsuits that Hawaiians have faced.”

I’d expect something akin to “common law marriage” applies: if you act like a US state for well over a century, don’t be surprised if you’re treated like one during uncomfortable circumstances.

Those ID cards warning police don't work very well.

It’s possible given the size of potential POTUS pardon bribes available, that Baraq may actually buy Hawaii and become it’s first Caliph.

The NY Times only publishes such articles to smear with a broad brush.

Yellow journalism and intellectual dishonesty.

Well, these guys should have expected this, and been prepared to defend themselves. Instead, they submitted to it. They clearly have no clue what freedom and independence means, nor do they have the fortitude to fight for it, apparently. Next freedom movement, please!
