An Illinois high school principal is defending his decision to exclude white students from a Black Lives Matter event held at his school.
On February 27th, Oak Park and River Forest High School principal, Nathaniel Rouse, hosted a Black Lives Matter event exclusively for black students. The assembly was intended to culminate Black History Month with a discussion on race relations. Approximately 350 black individuals attended the event. When white students attempted to attend the assembly, however, they were denied entry.
Parents who were upset over the schools decision to exclude non-black students from the event voiced their opinion to the Chicago Tribune. Rouse responded to the concerns of the parents by stating, First and foremost, this is not meant to give a connotation that we were trying to be exclusive.
In a statement on the Oak Park and River Forest High School website, the school addressed the controversy: [S]ome students and parents expressed confusion and concern about the event being for Black students only. Information about the event lacked clarity about this aspect of the conversation, and the high school is committed to improving communications in the future. Further conversations among and across other racial affinity groups shall take place at the high school in the coming months and into next year.
Rouse defended his decision to keep non-black students from the assembly by referring to the concept of affinity groups. According to the schools statement, Racial affinity groups are often used in learning communities to help facilitate positive identity exploration and provide people with similar experiences a space in which to pose questions and process topics.
According to Principal Rouse, the conversation was an opportunity for students who identify as Black to speak openly, honestly, and productively.
Rouse told the Chicago Tribune affinity groups are helpful to discussions on race, as he found it has been far easier for me to talk about my experiences with racism with individuals that look like me. He added, I still struggle myself with talking about my experiences with people who dont look like me.
Rouse hopes to host similar racial affinity group discussions in the future with different races, saying he believes the affinity group is the safe way for us to move forward in a safe environment.
These blacks that keep mentioning Trayvon Martin are fools; that incident of black on Hispanic violence spoke volumes not because of the incident itself, but because of the obese friend of Martin on the stand.
After squandering billions on education, we end up with a high school graduate who can’t “read cursive”. She “new school”; we “old school”...
How true! And since this one meeting exclusively for Blacks proved so successful, how about organizing one next month for Hispanics - and a month later for Asians - and a month later for ...?
I mean, it's not like any of these impressionable schoolchildren will feel excluded or discriminated against, merely because they were refused entrance to an assembly held on school grounds solely on the basis of their complexion - or, rather, the perception of said complexion by the "bouncers" posted at the doorways - right?
Regards,
A private black audience might be the only appropriate place in which to raise a “stop the pity party” appeal. Then it could not be said that it was the pressure of palefaces.
However what would you want to bet that is what is going to happen.
As a taxpayer this story is horrible; as a parent I don’t want my children attending a “black lives matter” event. As they mature they can determine for themselves whether or not black lives matter; black criminals and many mothers of unborn children don’t seem to agree with the principal on that point.
Actually Greeley, Colorado. Sounds like Cesar Chavez really got around...
Yes he did. I had Brown Berets at my ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, I kid you not!
Yep, the Brown Berets came up from Longmont, and yanked a white teacher out of class and gave him a beat down. They got arrested for assault and battery. Then the principle gave all the Chicanos the afternoon off so they could picket in front of the school, demanding more Chicano counselors. All us white kids had to stay in class....
The school did it’s best to stir up bad race relations, but for the most part all us kids grew up together and were not racist towards each other. The school was 50/50 whites and Chicano’s and I think we had something like 6 black kids out of 1000 students...
Getting excluded from such an air-head themed event is another manifestation of white privilage.
Caption: “All your white b!tches are belong to us!”
At the rate blacks are aborting themselves and killing each other, there won’t be enough for Farrakhan’s Day of Judgement for whites.
(aside) what novel? (back to original topic)
That’s racism folks. Why hasn’t this school system been sued by the parents of these other than minority students? This is a total violation of the equal rights act.
Time to throw this law right back in their faces.
I hate Illinois Nazis.....
All the school did was host the Dark Town Strutter’s Ball on a rather crude level.
Did the “White Lives Matter” rally go off just as well?
Maybe he’d be happier with an all black school. Maybe the white students should accommodate him.
Either way this doesn't solve the promotion of divide by Black leaders.
Without their precious Race baiting there is no culture war.
What about whites who identify as blacks? Works for the trannies.
Racist, but for the best. No need to drag all of the impressionable white students into that victimology crap. The little leftist children who are attracted to this kind of crap will learn a lesson.
