Can the president rewrite federal laws? Can he alter their meaning? Can he change their effect? These are legitimate questions in an era in which we have an unpopular progressive Democratic president who has boasted that he can govern without Congress by using his phone and his pen, and a mostly newly elected largely conservative Republican Congress with its own ideas about big government.
These are not hypothetical questions. In 2012, President Obama signed executive orders that essentially said to about 1.7 million unlawfully present immigrants who arrived in the U.S. before their 16th birthdays and who are not yet 31 years of age that if they complied with certain conditions that he made up out of thin air they will not be deported.
In 2014, the president signed additional executive orders that essentially made the same offer to about 4.7 million unlawfully present immigrants, without the age limits that he had made up out of thin air. A federal court enjoined enforcement of the 2014 orders last month.
Last week, the Federal Communications Commission -- the bureaucrats appointed by the president who regulate broadcast radio and television -- decreed that it has the authority to regulate the Internet, even though federal courts have twice ruled that it does not.
Also last week, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, whose director is appointed by the president, proposed regulations that would outlaw the only mass-produced bullets that can be fired from an AR-15 rifle. This rifle has been the target of the left for many years because it looks like a military weapon; yet it is a lawful and safe civilian rifle commonly owned by many Americans.
Thisweek, the presidents press secretary told reporters that the president is seriously thinking of signing executive orders intended to raise taxes...

Right. You mean “open borders Napoliano”?
He doesn’t believe in borders. I heard him say it with my own ears. Screw him.
But if the GOPe and the DemoRATS will block impeachment, what can be done about this menace?
And again, the American people shouted “STOP HIM” in November 2014, and yet, the spineless whores who eagerly took our vote have now pilfered what we have given them so they could rest and grow rich in comfort without having to be bothered.
Boehner and McConnell easily cave, despite knowing what is at stake. Jeb Bush openly bellows that he doesn’t need or want Conservatives to get the nomination.
These people bear a great responsibility for what is occurring in the country. It is not just Democrats, or even the MSM, it is “Republicans” who are suppose to be leaders but cowardly slink away from any fight so as not to disturb their own comfort.
A pox on them.
Boy _resident has largely gotten his way due to support from the enemedia and little push-back from the Republican opposition party.
He’ll step up his unconstitutional orders in his two years to go, I pray it is only two years.
Good point.
"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." |
After all, it is OUR legislative powers which WE delegated to a Congress, who the hell are they to pass them off to an EPA or Medicare?
The GOPe Congress is not defending the Constitution - not using the power of the purse to stop Obamacare or Amnesty, nor filing Articles of Impeachment.
Why in heaven’s name shouldn’t President Obama advance his agenda??? It’s for the benefit of the middle class and working families in any event.
Also, by not passing the his agenda, Congress really does not leave the President much option but to use his executive powers.
Obama naturalized as a US citizen in 1983. Obama assumed the office in violation of the Eligibility Clause. Congress and the federal courts are powerless to prevent an ineligible President from waiving America’s sovereignty.
Obama needs to call a constitutional convention with representatives from each state attending to develop articles of confederation.
He can do any darn thing he wants until someone stops him.
Courts? Fail.
Congress? Nope. They help him, even with GOP “control”.
States? No. They like the pork. The FedGov confiscates their citizens’ money and playing ball with DC is the only way to get any of it back.
All other solutions fall in the “banned from FR” range.
“Can the president rewrite federal laws? Can he alter their meaning? Can he change their effect?”
Yes. And if you say no you are a racist.
See if you can word that into Section 3 or create a new section. Let’s get it into shape here on FR and send it to Professors Barnett and Natelson at the COS Project.
No offense, but I think you meant to respond to another poster, since I didn’t mention impeachment.
That being said, Article V or dissolution of compact between the states are the only options now.
Is the Secret Service ,FBI and CIA suppose to protect and assist a Rogue President ?
I really hope there was a /S implied there...I used to think I could tell, but now I don’t assume.
Press your state legislators to apply for an Article V state convention to propose amendments. Through our states we can restore federalism and take power away from Obama.
It's fittting to use the "Present Progressive" tense.
EEEeeeewwwww!

He doesn’t care about the Constitution, the law, or the people. Those in pursuit of absolute power rarely do.
