You want the short answer? “Don’t Ask!”
When my wife was called to the school office because my son had a half centimeter by a half centimeter lego gun it should have been a clue we needed to home school. But it was the fact that he was falling behind even though we spent hours every night teaching him that made us home school.
He just got into a fight with his sister about who gets a advanced chemistry text book. That would never have happened in public school.
bump for later
We have 4 children, 17,15,12, and 11. They have never been to a government indoctrination center (”public” school).
My children are taught how to think not what to think.

Interesting chart.
They really did a bang up job putting it together.
That being said, with the gains in resources for parents, and the horrendous decline in the public schools, if we were parents of little ones now, we would choose to home school them. It's a no brainer. It's the far better choice for most who want to pass along goodness and truth to their children.
We have 8 children and started before it was cool: 1982. Wife and I both were former public school teachers with Bachelor’s degrees.

Excellent. Congratulations!
Amen.
Very nice!!
Congrats!!
I agree totally. My two children went to public schools and
public college. I made sure I monitored and tutored at home.
Hubby and I made sure they learned about true US history and the Constitution etc. We were lucky to live in a good
solid town with a good solid quasi-conservative school system (a rarity here in the Peoples Republic of Mass.) One of my parenting regrets is not teaching them more history...
They both turned out well and thank G-d majored in actual
fields - both are employed in their fields* (another rarity).
However, if my kids were young today, they would most likely
be home schooled. Some of the things I hear co-workers talk about regarding “public schools these days.....” make my head spin.
*my daughter is a teacher who REFUSES to teach in public schools. She teaches at a wonderful private school. You should hear her rant on public education today!
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Congratulations.
My kids are well on their way to being equally successful.
