M. Stanton Evans, conservative icon, dead at 80
The Washington Times ^ | March 3, 2015 | Ralph Z. Hallow

M. Stanton Evans, arguably the funniest serious man in America for much of his 80 years on the planet, died Tuesday after a long bout with pancreatic cancer.

For most of his life, as Mr. Evans watched fellow conservatives come and go, he lamented — always with humor, not bitterness — their tendency to catch “Potomac fever” as soon as they come to power.

“When our people get to the point where they can do us some good, they stop being our people,” he said, uttering what became known as “Evans‘ Law of Politics.”

Some many years ago, I was fortunate enough to have dinner with Mr. Evans on several occasions in Indianapolis. He would always order a cherry Coke and French fries.

He explained that, as a youth, he always figured he would be happy when he was rich enough to order a cherry Coke and French fires whenever he wanted; He was that rich and was that happy.

The Sharon Statement, written by Mr. Evans, was included with a recruitment paper for national charter members of the Young Americans for Freedom, which I joined, I think in 1967 or 1968. I was and am so proud of that!

RIP Stanton Evans.

Requiem aeternam dona ei Domine, locum refrigerii, lucis et pacis, Amen.

At least Bill Buckley will be happy to see him.

A giant.

The first to see Nixon for the liberal he was, despite his anticommunism. My favorite biographer of Tailgunner Joe.

Ruhe in Frieden.

Well, then, the three of the will need a fourth for bridge.... Too bad Gore Vidal won't be able to join them.

Perhaps Mr. Chesterton could sit in.

Mr. Evans . . . has written seven books, most recently “The Theme Is Freedom.”
The Theme is Freedom:
Religion, Politics, and the American Tradition
by M. Stanton Evans
Blacklisted by History:
The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America's Enemies
by M. Stanton Evans

Oh no !  :-(

What an eminently gifted individual he was.

What a huge debt we ALL owe him for destroying the left's meme re Joe McCarthy.

RIP Stan, and thank you so very much . . .

In the 80s I did public affairs for
my college radio station and we
got cassettes in from Radio America,
a conservative organization I believe
with various features. I just ran
it as a half hour show. M. Stanton
Evans did a kind of point-counterpoint
with Morton Kondracke. (Later Radio
America did an award winning radio
documentary on blues music,sponsored
by Philip Morris...and I think
Radio America is still around today,
doing talk radio?
