How do we win the DHS legislation? Simple. Every one of us and every one of our friends need to send a FAX or phone call to Mitch McConnell :
Phone: (202) 224-2541 Fax: (202) 224-2499
Your Call or Fax should read something like this:
Dear Majority Leader:
You can pass a clean DHS bill, prohibiting the Obama adminsitstraion from spending money on his illegal executive order by using the Reid Rule to bypass the filibuster.
I know you wanted to preserve tradition of the Senate filibuster rule, but the Democrats didn't care about tradition, only power, and they did what they wanted.
Republicans have to realize that the Democrats want you to allow them to work by one set of rules while your Republican caucus works by the old traditions.
Frankly, Senator, they have changed the game irrevocably. You should use their rule--the infamous Reid Rule--and do what's right for the country.
For about the same effort as pounding your computer keys complaining about the Republican effort, you can try to actually influence your government as a citizen.
I suggest the fax because the phone lines can be ignored so easily. A similar fax or phone call to your own Senators is mandatory. Get your Senator to pressure McConnell to move the House bill using the Reid Rule.
According to Fox News stories, Pelosi was telling the Dem caucus that she had been promised if the Dems would back the one week extension, they would have a chance to vote on the clean bill passed by the Senate last week. If a backroom deal has been made for Boehner to use Democratic votes to undercut the Tea Party in the House, then there will be little we can do to stop him on this vote. But it is an opportunity to use this outrage to oust Boehner. If he stabs us in the back only a few weeks into the year, it’s only going to get worse as the session moves along.
What’s Plan B? Even if you pass the bill, Obama will veto. Until you can name 13 Democrat Senators who will vote to over-ride, you’re wasting your time.
idiot mcconnell needs to go nuclear like fluken harry reid did.
If you think there is nothing worth doing, then why not just let the Democrats set the agenda and run all the votes the way they want.
Let’s see if the President has the stones to veto the funding for our National Security over illegal immigration.
Then let the Dems come up with excuses and their Plan B. Right now they don’t have to do anything but bask in the approval of the media.
“If you think there is nothing worth doing, then why not just let the Democrats set the agenda and run all the votes the way they want.”
Oh, BS. Why not do something constructive rather than wasting your time on something so obviously doomed to fail?
“Lets see if the President has the stones to veto the funding for our National Security over illegal immigration.”
Of course, he’ll veto it and you know it just as well as you know the Republicans will get the blame for making him shut down Homeland Security.
Done at Senate.gov
Aha! You must have a Plan B that is constructive. Let’s hear it.
We need to overload the Representatives’ fax lines and phone lines and mailboxes and emailboxes, even Peter King’s.
No. Not wasting time. Let Obama veto all he wants. SO long as the DHS is not funded at all we are ahead. In my fantasy I see the Congress simply ending DHS by not funding any part of it. We are at the dichotomy between security and liberty.
Idiot McConnell is working for Harry Reid. Reid is still the effective Senate Majority Leader.
Can you imagine if the 2 Superbowl teams were playing by different rules? Say one team needs 10 yards for a first down and the other only 7.
That is what the senate rinos want to do.
The filibuster is not a constitutional requirement.
It is a rule and subject to change. It has been changed several times before.
“I expect THEM to come up with a competent plan B which doesn’t involve waving the white flag. for almost five years we have heard these excuses about plans, when do they actually try to win something?”
There is no Plan B because you can’t win this fight. You will never get 13 Democrat Senators to vote to over ride Obama’s veto. It’s time to find a battle to fight that you can win.
“In my fantasy I see the Congress simply ending DHS by not funding any part of it. We are at the dichotomy between security and liberty.”
Well, that is a fantasy. Too bad there’s no chance of it happening. And, it is absurd to say: “We are at the dichotomy between security and liberty.”
We were told for 4 years we couldn’t win because the Democrats held the Senate. Now we are told we can’t win because Democrats are the minority in Congress. I am tired of excuses. Figure out a way to win, and start to fight. Based on what you are saying, why do we even need a Republican party? Winning is hard, and we don’t have the guts to fight, so why do we need them. I’m sorry, excuses are like Democrats. This, “we can’t win this fight” excuse is bs. Get out in front and sway public opinion instead of allowing demcrats to define the fight. You will never know what you can win, when you walk into every fight with a white flag.
“You will never know what you can win, when you walk into every fight with a white flag.”
It’s very simple. There is no way to win this fight. It’s time to move on to a fight we can win rather than wasting time and energy on this lost cause. Jumping up and down and screaming “Fight, Fight, Fight” does not change the fact that 13 Democrat Senators will not vote to over ride.
We’ve been hearing that for five years. What can we win?
“Weve been hearing that for five years. What can we win?”
Sorry to say, but very little without the White House.
Don’t forget the supreme court, oh, and there are still registered democrats, so I guess we are screwed, unless you are a socialist. Does hiding under your bed hoping the boogie man goes away ever wear on you?
