Or CB radio for those without the shortwave license...
this was a major fiber cable...where it was cut.. was on a part of its route in a very remote area of the desert..off the beaten path...and it was buried... per the article heavy equipment was used to dig it up... then its steel casing.was cut
most fiber cut are it a more accessible area
This is a bit different... this was a major cable in a remote area...some one had to know the route... picked a remote part of the route so not to be seen (else pick an easy area to get at it)... then took heavy equipment (a back hoe?) out there..(that took an effort in its self to transport in and out)..then dug it up to cut it....
vandalism is normally just a target of opportunity
this took some effort and I think that was the point being shown...its a bit different
KG7PCC here. Got comms?
People.. fiber is not copper... fiber is glass and plastic... there no major aftermarker for scrap fiber....
No, one cut isolated Flagstaff and other parts north of Phoenix from the net. The rest of the state was unaffected.
Exactly.
They’re just now thinking of this? Didn’t the bad guys used to cut telegraph cables before they robbed the train? All the old westerns wouldn’t lie to me, would they?
I accidently drilled a guy wire anchor through a big phone cable once, knocked out phones a hundred miles away.
I was doing contract work for a cable tv company and their insurance wound up paying for the damages.
I’m thinking we will be like North Korea or some such place where internet, and all other communications will go off during certain hours each day/night.
Wait until a few towers carrying 500kv lines are brought down (one can be temporarily replaced within a few hours but not a string). That's when the fun really starts.
Arizona....yep!
I do believe I remember seeing that happen on a very old episode of Radio Ranch yes!
Another DHS false flag operation?
Or Immigration....
the Dreamers were simply expressing their frustrations relative to the expected time of delivery for their ObamaPhones. EBT Cards...and BIG SCREEN Tee Vees
these things do happen.
Not too long ago over my way, they found a guy laying on the ground dead, a bunch of scorch marks on the wall where a high voltage feed connected to a building, cutting tools, and a roll of shopped wire from somewhere indeterminate.
And they said of his death “we don’t now what happened.”
*lol*
Perhaps the would be thieves simply saw a huge cable and thought “Jackpot!”
Lighted floral displays?

Story built for sensationalism. It hit northern Phoenix and Flagstaff and the tiny towns around there. Somebody cut a fiber cable that had no backup because there’s just not that many people on it.
No. 1 cable brought down some burbs and some small towns. Anybody south of the northern outskirts oh Phoenix was unaffected, and as near as I can tell Grand Canyon area also wasn’t hit.
Govt control test in progress.
