Federal regulators did not need President Obama to arrive at the net neutrality rules that it voted to issue on Thursday, according to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Tom Wheeler.
After the agency on Thursday voted to issue tough new rules that fell largely in line with those the president wanted, Wheeler countered Republican concerns that the White House put any undue pressure on the legally independent agency.
Im quite comfortable that we made this decision with independence and wisdom and based on the record, he told reporters after the vote. Wheeler has previously said that he began to think about the basic outlines of the change which legally reclassify Web service to regulate it under tougher rules last summer.
That was months before Obama, a supporter of net neutrality since his 2008 campaign, made his vocal pronouncement asking the agency to take the controversial step, which came days after the midterm elections in November.
The president has been well-known on record for a long time in favor of net neutrality, Wheeler said. So have I.
Presidents always communicate their opinions to the FCC, he added. Thats nothing new.
Republicans have raised alarms that the FCCs new rules were developed only after coordination with the White House.

Well of course he didn’t...Soros did...
In a Fox News story, the tools for the destruction of free speech stand out:
These new rules would not only affect your services, it would also give FCC regulators the power to decide what content on the Internet was just and reasonable. Commissioner Tom Wheeler makes the absurd comment that the FCC would never use those powers. But in a February 4 issue of Wired, he already hints at ways bureaucrats could start dictating what they view as threats on the Internet:
my proposal includes a general conduct rule that can be used to stop new and novel threats to the Internet. This means the action we take will be strong enough and flexible enough not only to deal with the realities of today, but also to establish ground rules for the as yet unimagined.
Wheeler needs to be deported.
Yep. Always the opposite of what they say.
So where did 300+ pages of “rules” come from virtually overnight?
I've been observing the same.
They may find a LARGE lack of VOTER support come 2016 if they continue to be the white flag party.
Never mind the fact that the government thru the FCC is now controlling the internet.
I’d love to hear Howard Stern’s take, you know he’s no fan of the FCC.
There are a nearly infinite number of lawyers in DC.
So 300 pages of regs is equivalent to 5 milliseconds.
> (waving hi to our new Net Neutrality overseers)
Probably not too far off. You know as soon as they made their intent known months ago they probably put people on it because they knew the GOP would fold like a cheap tent and nothing would stop them especially if the stuffed envelopes are being handed out...so you can probably guess the “surveillance system” has been activated or will be activated soon. They won’t start tampering with right wing sites just yet. They’ll let people get comfortable and then the outages will start later followed by door knocks and unlawful searches and seizures by DHS officials. Mark my words ....
Who funds the FCC?
The MSM pretty much controls the dialogue, and thus a majority of the populace.
Beat me to it.
The FCC did not need the approval of Congress to pass a new law that assuredly circumvents the Constitution either but rest assured the Congress will hold hearings on the issue that will go the way of the rest of their hearings on every other illegal action by this tyrannical regime.
Never mind the fact that the government thru the FCC is now controlling the internet.
are they really that stupid? Why yes I guess they are. No wonder 0's job has been so easy. We have idiots all over the country, most in high places that came from silver spoon backgrounds...
Translation: Obama dictated Web rules.
Exactamundo
The FCC says it wont apply some sections of Title II, including price controls
"If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," Barack 0bama
If the lips are moving he's...
So will we now get to see the new rules we’ve been shackled by?
Obama probably didn’t dictate the new rules because he didn’t need to. He and the liberals at FCC were already on the same page with this stuff. What he did was signal to the FCC that the White House approved the timing of the push and would assist in all of the second order ways that a White House can assist in something like this.
