Two prominent House committee chairs are deeply disappointed in Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler for refusing to testify before Congress as the future of the Internet is at stake. Wheelers refusal to go before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday comes on the eve of the FCCs vote on new Internet regulations pertaining to net neutrality. The committees chairman, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), and Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R., Mich.) criticized Wheeler and the administration for lacking transparency on the issue.

You think Republicans in Congress don’t want to cripple Free Speech on the internet as much as Obama does?
You don’t think John McCain would give what remains of his right arm to get Rush Limbaugh tossed off the air??
Keep dreaming.
Hit 'em with your purse, ladies of the GOP.
This is the opening salvo to people like us being disappeared in the night.
Stop feeling “deeply sorry” and start acting like mean SOBs with subpoenas up the ass. Chafetz talks a good game but in the end, he’s just another mealymouthed eunuch.
There is no reason to believe the king of the world will not “fairly” give away our constitution just for his friends. Or are we mistaken and stupid?

The king has spoken. No more articles on Muslims and their desire to kill you.
Check it out:
At Mondays White House press briefing, chief spokesman Josh Earnest indicated that in light of the terrorist raid of Charlie Hebdos Paris offices by jihadists, President Barack Obama would be taking a serious swipe at the First Amendment freedom of the press as it pertains to future anti-Jihadist articles.
The Daily Caller reported:
President Barack Obama has a moral responsibility to push back on the nations journalism community when it is planning to publish anti-jihadi articles that might cause a jihadi attack against the nations defenses forces, the White Houses press secretary said Jan. 12.
The president will not now be shy about expressing a view or taking the steps that are necessary to try to advocate for the safety and security of our men and women in uniform whenever journalists work may provoke jihadist attacks, spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters at the White Houses daily briefing.
The unprecedented reversal of Americans civil-military relations, and of the presidents duty to protect the First Amendment, was pushed by Earnest as he tried to excuse the administrations opposition in 2012 to the publication of anti-jihadi cartoons by the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
We can all see that this bald attempt will lead to regulating content as per what ever the politically correct might deem acceptable. You can see this in the statements from the king of the world who has already made selective use of his dictates to award his sycophants. If he gets his way, nobody will ever report events like Benghazi or dare question why Susan Rice is micro managing the military. Nobody would have noticed Fast and Furious. Nobody could question the shadow government that is now implementing an invasion and in spite of the legit process. Dogmatic J-schoolers, such as Brian Williams and many others, were able to twist stories without any trouble. Now however, citizen journalists have returned to balance the extended bias of these professional, university trained journalists, and many of them are experts in fields who can successfully challenge the framework leftists employ. As such, you will not see the mainstream media rise up, except to support the power grab, because they think they’ll be the only reporting resources left standing. They are looking forward to the crackdown.
Or to suppress an eBook.
No more anonymity means they can find you if you post something they don't like.
Also, anything political will be treated as a campaign contribution and must be reported to the FEC.
Next, if it's a utility then we can't have anonymous people using it, just like how phone, water, and electricity users are not anonymous. Ignore the fact that you are not really an anonymous user of the utility because your ISP knows you and bills you each month. It's just the traffic content that is anonymous, but the usage is paid for.
And finally, if anonymity is to be banned, then this will also ban all personal encryption and VPN services that spoof internet traffic, with the possible exception of business telecommuting and online banking and stock trading traffic, but only if decryption keys are registered with the government.
That's my prediction, anyway.

Every liberal I know would be very happy if sites like Free Republic were shut down as long as the liberal sites remain available.
That’s right. As much as they would like us to believe, the Congress are NOT innocent bystanders. They can literally shut down such things by not funding them.
Congress not funding? We see how that’s working out :(
to control political speech online
That’s the only reason. They got away with the IRS targeting Tea Party groups. Now they’ll have a “law” in place making it legal for them to target conservative websites.
Yep. I imagine the lib sites will somehow meet the new *requirements* and will somehow avoid the fees imposed on conservative sites.
Midge McConnell is elated about the thought of his foe - The TEA Party - being squelched.
