IF you think the air travel experience generally stinks now, consider what it was like before smoking was banned on domestic flights 25 years ago.
Tracy Sear, a flight attendant with US Airways, was looking over some Facebook posts from colleagues recalling those bad old days when a third or more of passengers on any flight puffed away, and cabins were foul with smoke. When I spoke with her the other day, she read one of those posts to me: Suitcases, uniforms, hair all stunk from cigarette smoke. And its astounding that we didnt have more cabin fires.

I recently saw “The High and the Mighty.” (That was the movie that was spoofed by “Airplane”). Back in the old days when it took 8 hours to fly from Honolulu to San Francisco at 8 thousand feet, the passengers could smoke and bring a loaded handgun on board. Those were the days.
There is no freedom in addiction.
Collectively, rich people are boors, aggressively offensive and greedy, caring only about themselves. It's only just that some forcible redistribution of wealth take place, and the rich people have no one to blame but themselves.
Oh ... by the way ...

We used to go to the airport for FUN.
Good resturants, Travelers from everywhere, Stews,
we could go up on the roof and watch operations and
listen to the tower.
I’ll never fly again.
That better be ‘sarcasm’, because otherwise it’s complete nonsense and you know it. In fact, it’s not even good sarcasm. It’s just stupid.
I remember, late ‘70s...business flight to Rochester. The plane was full. I had a non-smoking ticket and they put me in the “smoking” section.
I objected.
Smoking was banned on the whole flight.
Yes, I loved to go to the airport, just to go to the airport.
People got dressed up to take a flight, too.
My comment? The one with the [/s] in it? You’re asking me if it’s sarcasm?
I don't for one moment accept that smokers were and are the cause of the current nanny state.
No, that lays directly at the feet of leftists and progressives who know what is best for YOU.
I remember when there was a “Smoker mafia” here that would descend on any thread critical of smoking. They were vicious.
I remember when air travel was civilized. Passengers were treated as valued customers. There was food, friendly service, and yes, you could sit back and light up a smoke.
God, I miss those days.

You can refuse to accept it if you like, but you’re old enough to know better. You lived through it, same as me.
The aggressively arrogant conduct that was typical of 1970s cigarette smokers gave the nanny-staters an opening, and they took it. Big time.
Control yourself, or be controlled. The latter is always worse.
“I grew up with many family members that smoked, and there was no smell to anything that had been in the room. Of course this was in the 1950s and early 60s.”
There is a direct correlation between nose size and lying.
'Yes we do.'
'Well let him out!' [click!]

Those were the days.
I seem to recall someone once saying that on Aeroflot, the left side of the plane was smoking, and the right side was non-smoking.
Using cig smokers to explain the nanny state is ridiculous. Your pushing it is even more so. In places I loitered, smokers were maybe 90 per cent of the population. other places, perhaps 10%. There was no correlation.
I say again, the smokers were not the opening or an opening. Nanny staters never needed an opening, just weakness on the part of the electorate, and perhaps, foolishness and gullibility in those who were coaxed into voting for them.
Compressed air is free on a jetliner. It’s called “bleed” air and comes directly from the engine turbine BEFORE the fuel is mixed in the jet. Does not cost fuel. I agree with the filtration system problems though!!
They probably, sadly all died from lung cancer while proclaiming that you could pry their cigarettes from their cold, dead fingers. :(
Yes and you are still here?? Guess that second=hand smoke thing didn’t do you in!!
