The White House on Monday backed Defense Secretary Ashton Carter's remark that transgender people should not be precluded from military service because of their sexual identity.
The president agrees with the sentiment that all Americans who are qualified to serve, should be able to serve, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said during a press briefing.
For that reason, we here at the White House welcome the comments from the Secretary of Defense, he added.
On Sunday, Carter said he was very open minded about the idea of transgender people serving in the military.
I don't think anything but their suitability for service should preclude them, he said during a town hall event in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Even though the militarys Dont ask, dont tell policy was repealed years ago, allowing openly gay people to serve, there is still a ban that blocks transgender people from serving in the armed forces.
Last year former DOD chief Chuck Hagel said that the ban should be continually reviewed.
Earnest declined to comment on what additional steps might be taken on the policy, referring questions to the Pentagon.
One military group on Monday applauded Carters position.
The Pentagon chief is right in that their ability to serve is the only thing that should matter, Ashley Broadway-Mack, president of the American Military Partner Association, said in a statement.
Thousands of transgender service members are currently doing the job, and doing it well, but are forced to do so in silence forced to lie about something as fundamental as who they are in order to continue to serve, she added.
Thousands of transgender service members are currently doing the job, and doing it well, but are forced to do so in silence....
How on earth could she know that? Its complete speculation.
My major objection to allowing gays openly serve in the military has been that it is very disruptive, and for the benefit of a few dozen people at most. I have seen half a dozen stories about specific individuals coming out as gay in the military - and assuming the media is turning over every rock to find these stories, I can safely assume that decades of studies, policy changes, congressional hearings, etc. were for the benefit of around a half dozen people - stupid.
And I’m quite sure there aren’t “thousands” of transgender freaks in the military either.
The most frequently cited number (which is still highly suspect) is 0.3% of our population is transgender. Of our 1.3 million troops, that would be 3,900 trannies in the ranks...if represented proportionately with the general population....which is very unlikely.
transgender troops ,only for Parades not Battle
I wonder how many candidates he went through before I found one that didn’t answer “You got to be SH****NG Me!”
Yep, it’s not only complete speculation it’s total BS in my view. The vast majority of transgenders would have been outed so quick by straight troops it’d make it nearly impossible for them to have remained in service in the past.
Of course he supports it, the creature he lives with would beat the crap out of him if he did not.
Complete the phrase:
“This is my rifle, this is my gun....”

Trans whatever types are not combat ready. They will never be. Throw them out now.
all Americans who are qualified to serve
Transgender people are NOT qualified to serve due to their mental illness. Also it would be “prejudicial to good order and discipline” within the military.
All the denial and hormones in the world won’t affect DNA-that is why I said “fake gender”-they just give the unstable nutcase some of the body characteristics of what they are faking in their lala land.
I’d always heard dependence on drugs to maintain health was considered by the military as making a soldier not deployable, just as much as any severe physical limitation would. Where, in a war zone would someone be able to get insulin, heart medication, hormones, chemotherapy drugs etc? Not to mention that I can’t think of too many soldiers who would want to fight beside someone who is so emotionally unstable that they have delusions about belonging to the opposite gender...
Pinay means from the Philippines. Xicana means the Chicana feminist movement or some such.
Active Duty ping.
They used the same people that claimed that 16000 women are raped in the military each year and that 16000 homos were in the ranks.
