The Senator is onto something. I never thought that I would ever say this of a Navy Admiral, but Kirby is a coward.

Is old Johnny McCain showing his anger at the navy again because he never made flag rank like his daddy? After watching his performance on capitol hill these many years it’s perfectly understandable why they refused him an admiralty.

I just read that the Obama flack, medal-flaunting Rear Admiral Kirby, has resigned.

I couldn't stand watching him, let alone listening to his torutuous spins.

He always looked like a deer caught in the headlights...or, more precisely, the runaway bride, or...groom, or....whatever.

Looks like he finally did flee from his demeaning job...or he was thrown from the ship by his master.

Anchors a-way, dumnkopf.

A U.S. Navy rear admiral is, by the way, equivalent in rank to a U.S. Army or U.S. Marine Corps general.

The public affairs admiral is not the only idiot on parade here. The author of this piece needs to spare us his vast knowledge. A Rear Admiral of the Navy is the equivalent of an Army, Marine Corps, or Air Force Brigadier General (one star) or Major General (two stars). The Navy divides their Rear Admirals into two different ranks for reasons that are rooted in the sands of time. An Army or Marine Corps General wears four stars and is comparable to an Admiral.

I saw Kirby lie directly - said ISIS was demoralized, having to conscript troops etc ..... this during the time Congress was getting direct testimony that ISIS was expanding. The head-up-Obama’s-@ss was so obvious, it was disgusting to watch this person, dressed in an American Military uniform, outright lie and act in such a disgraceful manner.

1) The writer gives much more credence to McCain than I ever will. His POW account in in overdraft, IMO. He’s built an entire political career around that and gotten rich in the process. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to speak this plainly in his own 2008 presidential campaign about what was readily apparent about Obama then. He couldn’t even rise to the level of plain-speaking that his VP candidate subsequently used to build her own political fortunes.

2) I would truly be amazed if a journalist of any kind ever begins to understand military rank structure. Specifically, a USN Rear Admiral (always capitalized) is equal to either a Brigadier General (one star) or a Major General (two stars) in the other services. It depends on whether the individual is a Rear Admiral (lower half - one star) or a Rear Admiral (upper half - two stars.)

3) The other military fact the writer overlooks is the political nature of becoming a flag rank officer. Once they have the stars on, they are no less a politico than any of the others. The only difference is the clothes they put on in the morning, a pinstripe suit or a military uniform with its accoutrements.

And I may be wrong here but Kirby can’t “resign” from the Navy. He can retire at a future date, i. E. Put in his retirement papers.
He has been reassigned to a different job, I’m pretty sure, so he will still be in uniform until he retires.
He serves, as all uniform personnel do, at the “pleasure of the President” and has to have his retirement request approved by the chain of command...
I think I got that right.

I’ve never served a day in uniform so this question is coming from complete ignorance. How does one rise to the rank of Rear Admiral without ever being in command of a ship? Its like earning a Black Belt without ever stepping on to the mat, IMHO.

He should have said that at least the commitment to diversity was unharmed. Remember the other colossal idiot that said that after the terrorist Nadal killed those people at Ft. Hood?
