Did Governor Walker Graduate?
Accuracy in Academia ^ | February 18, 2015 | Malcolm A. Kline

Reports that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker did not graduate from college have provoked a stream of broadsides, most of them misleading.

For starters, he left after three and a half years “in good standing,” according to all accounts. That would put him just a half year shy of graduation, with roughly five courses to make up.

In an era in which many collegians get their degrees in six years, it is easy to forget that, not long ago, four was the standard. “A little more than half of students who enter four-year colleges earn a bachelor’s degree from the same institution within six years,” David Glenn wrote in the Chronicle of Higher Education in 2010.

“The 2012 graduation rate for first-time, full-time undergraduate students who began their pursuit of a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year degree-granting institution in fall 2006 was 59 percent,” according to the National Center for Education Statistics. “That is, 59 percent of first-time, full-time students who began seeking a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution in fall 2006 completed the degree at that institution within 6 years.” The percentage of students who graduate in four years is closer to 30.

“We don’t have answers to parents who ask us if spending one-third of their income on a college education is worth it,” Sarah Martinez Tucker then at the U. S. Department of Education said in 2007.

Why would you want to appease just the kind of people who most of the country do not respect?

GOP and conservatives appease too much.

Push back is what is needed.

I am not embarrassed by him and I think he is great. And I have 3 degrees.

Why are we even discussing this?
The ONLY reason this is an issue is
because he is a Republican and we
allowed the ‘Rats and their media toadies
to make it one. Somebody needs to
start hammering the double standard angle.

Neville Chamberlain was a college graduate. Churchill was not. Enough said.

Because having a college degree isn't a requirement to become president of the US.

The current president has proven that brains and balls are required not an ivy league education. Obummer has the latter but woefully demonstrates he doesn't have the former. Walker, on the other hand, has stood up to bullying by unions and the dim political machine...all without a college degree.

He probably cannot find five courses in his field devoid of new age professorial blabber. I give him some credit for spending ‘away from school’ time for being out in the world. There are a number of people like Gates who chose to forego college degrees to be in the real world. I do believe there are some fields such as science/engineering and medicine/doctors that need professional guidance; business and societal shaping not so much.

Marquette should just give him the degree considering his work experience, like Gates.

The left is mad at him because he beat them every time and can't understand how a man without a degree could beat great intellects like themselves.

Two semesters. Take 9 credits from March to May and 6 more from May to July.

Then announce how anyone, regardless of standing could go back to school.

He doesn’t need it and they would just find another thing to whine about.

Bingo. This is how the Left operates. They would say something like, "Yes he graduated, but it was only a bacherlor's degree." Or, "He got a degree from a mid-western college, and he only graduated cum laude. He's clearly not Ivy League material."

He should do it to take away the issue.

Also, Harry Truman, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington never went to college.

Add Graybeard 58 to that list too and just look at my life, 69 years old and already a FReeper for almost 12 years!

Leftists tear people down.

Conservatives tend to listen to leftist content and try to fix the situations

Ignoring content and retaking the conversation and steering it where it needs to be is the work conservatives need to learn.

That’s not what it’s about - this is a leftist religious test.

"He should do it to take away the issue."

Doug,

That is not how the left works. If he did that, the left would just say, "He does not really care about getting an education. He is only getting his degree to build his resume to become President, bla, bla, bla...."

When you consider the “thought processes” of “college educated people” (like Marie Barf), I’ll come down on the side of a man who is a little less “educated” to function as a real leader.

I guess you’re right. That really does put it into perspective. & colleges are still teaching appeasement, although not calling it that. I think engagement is the term they use.
