The conceit that human production of carbon dioxide is capable of driving the earths climate is running smack into the sun. CO2 accounts for a mere 0.039% of the atmosphere, while the sun accounts for 99.86% of all of the mass in our entire solar system. And Ol Sol is not taking the insult lightly. Vencore Weather reports:
For the past 5 days, solar activity has been very low and one measure of solar activity its X-ray output has basically flatlined in recent days (plot below courtesy NOAA/Space Weather Prediction Center). Not since cycle 14 peaked in February 1906 has there been a solar cycle with fewer sunspots.

We are currently more than six years into Solar Cycle 24 and today the sun is virtually spotless despite the fact that we are still in what is considered to be its solar maximum phase. Solar cycle 24 began after an unusually deep solar minimum that lasted from 2007 to 2009 which included more spotless days on the sun compared to any minimum in almost a century.

So, low solar output also causes Jihad?

'weakest solar cycle in a century'Tell me about it. Going to be 0 here, tomorrow night. Which, in the Southeast, is the next thing to an ice age.

This will simply give the Global Warming industry their long sought explanation for why none of the predicted global warming has occurred.
Gaia has given us a reprieve to raise taxes and increase government control before man made global warming kills us all!

January and February are our normal times to have below zero weather anyway, so what we have isn't anything different to other years. I remember one year we had 30 days of below zero temps. I live in central NY State. It's 21 today...heat wave. Still having below zero temps overnight.
I was stuck in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in January of 1998 due to an ice storm that ran from New England down into Virginia. The ice was so bad that all the outlet malls and restaurants were closed. The temps were minus 35 windchill, and they were doing rolling blackouts through Pa., to deal with the heavy energy demands. I tried to start my car but it wouldn't turn over. I called AAA to have them come to give me a jump, but the woman told me I wouldn't be able to go anywhere anyway since Route 81 was closed. I ended up having to stay a couple of extra days in a hotel room, and eat cold sandwiches from the diner across the way. The ice was so bad, thick with nothing but ruts, that I wore out the tires I had on my car by the time I got home. Now that was cold.

The big fear now is we may be heading for another Maunder Minimum. And that could will seriously affect food production in the higher latitudes, which means much lower wheat production unless land now devoted to rice production is switched over to wheat production during this cold period. In short, Asians used to eating a lot of rice will have to make do with eating a lot more wheat-based products such as noodles or something like the Chinese mantou buns made from wheat.

I’ve never really understood the solar activity in relation to short wave broadcast, or for that matter any broadcast. Does activity affect the broadcast negatively?
