"I want to work with Congress to replace mindless austerity with smart investments that strengthen America," said President Obama in a recent speech at the Department of Homeland Security.
In the making of a counter-cultural hero, in an era of failed responsibility and in an era of passing the buck, a new superstar has been found.
In America, we have Elizabeth Warren, who is coming on like gangbuster as an alternative to Hillary Clinton, something I predicted a long time ago.
In Europe, Yanis Varoufakis, the Greek finance minister whose un-tucked shirts worn with blue jeans have become a symbol of his disdain for greed and selfish workaholics that dare ask for their loans be repaid.
Check out this movie poster of him with a dejected Angela Merkel in the background.

Here's the real deal: The best poster boy for this movement that says governments shouldn't have fiscal responsibility and that people shouldn't have to pay back their debts, should be J. Wellington Wimpy of the comic strip Popeye.
Created by E.C. Segar in 1934, everyone is familiar with his one-line sales pitch: "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.
With debt around the world out of control and politicians promising more goodies like free college, there will be more efforts to have obligations demonized and erased at the expense of the lender.
The fact of the matter is Mr. President, there is no such thing as "mindless austerity. In fact, that's an oxymoron and a dangerous path to staying or gaining power.
The world believes so many lies these days, the politicians think cartoon characters will work.
I would like to say they’re wrong; but then I’d probably be mistaken. Since 2008 I’ve come to the conclusion about half the world is incapable of rational thought. Or indifferent to it. It has the same result.
So if your boat is full of holes, only some of them should be plugged?
“mindless austerity”... what austerity??
This latest round of problems in Greece didn’t get started because Greeks were starving in the alleys. It was started because so many citizens in Athens had swimming pools in their backyards.
A city employee in Athens saw a satellite photo of Athens. He noticed that there were a large number of swimming pools in the backyards of the houses of Athens. He didn’t notice widespread poverty and desolation. He noticed swimming pools. Not the $100 ones from K-Mart, either. These are the real ones. The in-ground kind. The kind that you need a chemical test kit for.
You need to buy a permit from the city government to build a swimming pool in your back yard in Athens. No one had bought a permit.
I imagine that it takes a good deal of money to have a swimming pool built in your back yard in Athens. So, the citizens of Athens had a lot of money to build swimming pools in their back yards, but somehow, they didn’t have enough money to pay their taxes.
The Germans noticed this. The Greeks were building swimming pools while they were demanding handouts from the EU. That’s like getting caught competing in a triathlon after you filed for Workmans Compensation because you have a hard time walking.
Let them eat swimming pools.
Man is a very lazy animal. In fact he is so lazy he’d rather work than think!
My, how the USA changed between 09/12/2001 and 11/04/2008.
I still shake my head in disbelief.
What a great explanation about the greedy Greeks!
I just swiped it.
I'll take Untranslatable Statements from Barak for $800 Alex.
“Since 2008 Ive come to the conclusion about half the world is incapable of rational thought.”
I’d say you are being extremely kind in your judgement of humanity!
:)
I meant to type 1/2 of America.
Though I still may be being extremely kind!
