In a lecture event titled Groundbreakers, Mavericks, and TrailBlazers: How Women are showing 21st Century Leadership, John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute guest Sarah Palin spent her opening speech time on hitting all the key points a conservative Midland-Odessa wants to hear: American exceptionalism, attacks on President Barack Obama and foreign countries, praise of President Ronald Reagan, cleaning up the good ol boys system in Washington, D.C., and saying screw political correctness.
Palin was the center of attention at the Wagner-Noël Performing Arts Center on Thursday evening. She spent the first half of the roughly 90-minute event speaking freely on the aforementioned topics, and then spent the last half answering answer questions asked by Bob Brescia, executive director of the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute and Pat Canty, publisher of the Odessa American.
Even after receiving flak for her speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit in Des Moines, Iowa, Palin still used a Martin Luther King Jr. quote that was cited many times in critical articles about the speech, all for the sake of pointing out peoples distrust in national politics.
And so we must, he (King) said, strengthen our backs and work for our freedom, Palin said on Thursday. A man cant ride you unless your back is bent.
But Palin won the crowd over when she uttered her famous drill, baby, drill catchphrase when discussing domestic vs. foreign oil production, also noting that the U.S. needs to quit bowing down to foreign countries.
Palins ferocity and unabashed tone complimented her answers relevant to the theme of the lecture, when the theme finally came about through moderator and audience questions. Palin revealed that she views being a mother, not a former vice presidential candidate, not a former governor of Alaska, as her legacy.
It (her legacy) would have to be about being a mom, Palin said. Speaking of political incorrectness, Im sure that those that consider themselves feminists just cringe at such a thing when I talk about it.
Throughout the night, Palin would switch back and forth between skewering and complimenting. So after her attack on feminists, Palin complimented Texas women, or cowgirls, saying they understand what it takes to make it in tough conditions.
But, when asked an audience question about examples of young, women politicians on both sides of the political spectrum that she respects, Palin sidestepped the question, saying she can list a lot on one side but did not do so.
It was Palin herself, through her demeanor and confidence, but not with her answers, that addressed the topic of women showing modern leadership.
And to one Odessa resident who attended the free event, she had a glowing impression of the JBS guest.
I like (Palins) outlook, I like her platform, I like her, attendee Glendis Brooks said.
BUMPEROONI FOR PALIN AS V.P.
I hope this speech goes more smoothly than the last one with a malfunctioning teleprompter. Even the great talents have off days. I also hope Sarah and Todd have a financial planner who is both smart and trustworthy. I recall reading about the actress Doris Day, whose own husband Marty Melcher, cheated her out of millions in fraudulent investments. The money could not be traced or recovered in those days.
John Wayne fell prey to the same thing in the 50’s.
She better put on those running shoes because I’m chasing her. Marry me, Sarah!
Did you watch the speech? If you did would you please point out the rough spots for us. I didn't notice anything untoward in her speech but the PDSers sure did.
I’m with you. I thought Sarah Ohio speech was folksy and had great appeal to the middle class American. It was the same kind of folksiness that you heard from Ronald Reagan. And, there is another one, Will Rogers, that some are now saying that Sarah is today’s female Will Rogers. Nothing wrong with that.
It (her legacy) would have to be about being a mom, Palin said. Speaking of political incorrectness, Im sure that those that consider themselves feminists just cringe at such a thing when I talk about it.
It's the family that lives on. It's all that lives on. Not your personal glory, not your honor... but family. I hope everyone understands that.
This was a great speech by Sarah!
But I am trying to find the link to her speech, I don't know if it is up yet. So her List doesn't have to read through this Newspaper's yimmer-yammering.
Pray America is waking
I didn’t get to go. :(
I hope you find the speech sometime so I can hear it, too.
And thank you for that post itsahoot, Love your Tagline!
God bless and protect Sarah Palin.
