Sen. Ted Cruz Would Deploy U.S. Troops Against ISIS "If Need Be" Feb 8, 2015 By LAURA WAGNER
GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said today he would take put U.S. troops on the ground in the fight against ISIS if it was necessary to "accomplish the mission."
"The mission should be defeating ISIS before they succeed in carrying out more horrific acts of terror, before they succeed in murdering Americans. If need be, we should go that step," Cruz told "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos when asked whether U.S. troops on the ground should be considered.
Cruz's answer echoed that of fellow GOP hopeful, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who said last Sunday on "This Week" that he "wouldn't rule out" deploying American troops in the fight against ISIS.
Cruz, however, emphasized that the first steps in combating the terror group should be arming the forces already battling ISIS on the ground, and stepping up the severity of air strikes.

What is this “if need be” crap? It is obviously needed, and yesterday!! Ted, I’m surprised at this RINO-like language - don’t go mushy on us!!
If America has the choice to survive or fight on the ground, then fight on the ground it has to be, whether everyone is war-weary or not. You can’t just lie down and die.
First thing I’d do is to identify each and every muslim training camp in the U.S. and then attack, kill and deport
every one of the terrorists, then bulldoze their camps. Send a message to terrorists world wide let them know their next.
Committing our sons and daughters to war in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan is not to be taken lightly. Cruz is right to say, if need be. Why should he make some absolute statement when he’s not even announced yet?
Lost my vote dumb sh!t. When you can prove Isis is in row boats headed this way- NO TROOPS!
A negative is that Cruz is still finding his independent, informed voice on foreign affairs. I'm not sure arming the Kurds without "boots on the ground" is a good idea. What if ISIS gets ahold of them? What if the Kurds use those arms against Turkey in their quest for an independent state? I'm not sure that Cruz has enough expertise on foreign affairs to have a policy.
One good point made in the show was by a general, I think. It's that arms are being sent to Iraq to get them to the Kurds, and the Kurds aren't getting enough of them.
This is all Alice-in-Wonderland stuff. The premise that Saudi Arabia is our friend and Assad should be forced out of power is way beyond having any good conclusion.
We don't send them to war, that is the problem.
Did you read the article? Ted says that there is no need to use our troops for now because the Kurdish Peshmerga is doing the job, and that we should further arm them. Only if they would fail would we need boots on the ground.
I agree with him. Let the Kurds do the job. I’m no isolationist, but why should we send our sons, and daughters over to fight again, and die again if we don’t have to?
That isn’t going to happen until we get rid of the head muslim in the White House.
I’d rule out raising taxes.
There you have it - Cruz won't put his foot in his mouth by making a definitive statement about something that is sure to morph by the time he actually has an opportunity to actually make the decision and he is "wishy-washy" and not fit to be put into the seat that would give him the option to take action. Gosh we be smarties here.
How would nuking Mecca stop ISIS? Or al Qaida? Or any other Muslim terrorist organization?
They would probably destroy ISIS faster by putting troops on the ground in Doha or Ankara - but nobody wants to go there, yet.
You’re right that it’s not to taken lightly. But ISIS is an existential threat to all of us - they need to be stopped in the same say Jordan is doing. It’s like Nazism. I would expect him to be more definitive in the face of such an obvious evil threat.
Hard to keep the faithful in line when it requires bowing to a plate of radioactive glass.
Would the Jews pack it in if Jerusalem was nuked? Would Catholics give up is the Vatican was destroyed? Or would either act motivate the people to strike back?
“Would the Jews pack it in if Jerusalem was nuked? Would Catholics give up is the Vatican was destroyed?”
****
Nuking Mecca would wipe out 2 of the 5 pillars of Islam - the Salat (daily prayers to Mecca) and the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca).
There is no Christian or Jewish equivalent for Vatican City or Jerusalem.
This would put a serious dent in a third pillar - the Shahadah. Hard to claim no other God except Allah when the infidels have wiped Mecca from the face of the earth.
And if you think that wouldn't make them fight harder and hate more then you're just kidding yourself.
