NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The executive committee of the state Republican Party has turned back an effort to hold closed primaries in Tennessee.
The panel voted 37-29 on Saturday against the resolution aimed at requiring party registration to vote in primary contests.
Currently, Tennessee voters arent registered by party, and people sometimes vote in a particular primary because of campaign developments rather than party affiliation.
Supporters of closed primaries say crossover voting can unduly influence the outcome of nomination contests.

I believe “Jungle” primaries work to the advantage of the incumbents and or party elite. The message always is “come on get on board or we won’t even be in or possibly not have a runoff”. We’re much better off with a closed primary and let Republicans and Conservatives hold their primary and discuss their differences and let democrats have theirs.
And the fraud keeps on a-rollin’...
of course they do
Im glad you included Corker in that list..
I think it was on Judge Jeannine last night.. there was head shots of the GOP field ..24 of them...on the screen to the left of her as she spoke last night..
I noticed Corker among them but I couldn’t remember later who was the new face..
If we had closed primaries, Corker wouldn’t stand a chance..however without them Corker can run and make a good showing in our primaries..even be TN’s “pick”
and set himself up for 2020 as a “leader of the GOP”
The TN Republican Party is rooted in the eastern regions, where it has spent the last 150 years fossilizing into a political machine like the Dems have in a big city.
When the Civil War began, eastern TN had no use for the Confederacy and they aligned with the Union-Republicans.
Yeppers
My Bradley County was a Union county..
Damn them there North Aggressors..
:)
If there is so much worry about “crossover votes”, then allow only one candidate from any one party on the ballot.
1) Let the parties (through Conventions, Caucuses, etc.) select their candidate.
2) Any and all candidates for any office should be required to file (with affiliation, if any) for the primary to be eligible to be on the (run-off) election ballot.
3) Any candidate receiving more than 50% of the primary vote is elected. If no-one receives this simple majority, then the top two vote getters or the top 50% (in whole numbers, rounded up) of the field participate in a run-off. Repeat this selection process until a majority vote is attained.
4) During this election process, no candidate is allowed to change affiliation from that originally filed.
If this process was followed, then my taxes would not be used to winnow the Dem., or Rep. candidates (much less the Greens, Commies, Independent Party, Libertarian, Tea Party, or whatever). The election would more truly reflect the desires of the voters. IMHO, Bill Clinton was elected by Ross Perot (due to the protest vote against GHWB because Bush was so far ahead of that unknown from Ark.). And, I realize, this might result in two Dems or two Repubs or whatever being on the final ballot. If that’s a worry, then run a stronger candidate.
At present, I am a “Non-Affiliated” voter and, as such, am locked out of the primaries and am not allowed to vote for any of the primary candidates but am presented 10-12 candidates (for a single office) in the November election (a field which should have been cut down in the primary), and often includes candidates who lost in the primary and changed affiliation or office from President to Senate (for example) to get on the (Nov.) ballot.
The current system only insures that those currently in power stay in power.
Looking forward to (constructive) criticisms.

What is the rationale for an open primary?
Why would anybody be for it?
More crappy governors and U.S. Senators for years to come Yippie. Tennessee GOP General Assembly you were elected to a majority status to FIX what was broken by years of abuses under DEM control. Are you becoming as the RINO’s in DC also?
And Haslam and Corker as well. None of them would have likely gotten the GOP nod without Liberal Crossovers in primaries. Boss Hog would be in envy.
Hey there were Mountain Rebels in East Tennessee too. A Confederate General came out of Sevier County. My wife's GG Uncle LOL. Academy educated and when the war began he went Confederate. Braxton Bragg hated him. He showed him up LOL.
Recruited by Barbours GOPe posse and black libtard Democrat machines
Working in unison
It was easy
Statewide blacks in Mississippi gonna have their way
Better from their libtard perspective to help the moderate
This doesn’t happen in Alabama probably because of Sessions power
Is their a list of the panel
I bet I know at least two of them
There Valleys and other areas of pro Southern sentiment
And they fought
It was like Alvin Yorks challenge of bottomland versus top land
Bottomland bigger farms more pro Southern
The other two GOPe centers are fancy zip codes in Nashville and Franklin areas
And Lookout Mt. Long home to GOPe leaders and the Corker power base
It’s why DeVaney moved from Belle Meade to Lookout Mt to run the GOPe and Corkers party administration
And this is the primary man with means challenger to the GOPe

A determined man..,, I used to know him well
His dad was an early HCA CFO who made out very well
A half a billionaire they say
The alleged intent was that some voters would crossover from primary to general
This was more likely back before such sharp division between elements in each party
Now it ensures mushy middle
You purists need to shut up and sit down while we put up our wonderful liberal candidates.
If you notice, I didnt say that jungle primaries were better than closed primaries; I dont have experience of them and I wouldnt know. But it just has to be better than an open primary with no contest on the Democrat side.I dont think I would be induced to get on board a second-placing candidate in preference to voting for my preferred third candidate. After all, any vote not for the leading Democrat is as much a vote against installing that Democrat without a runoff as a vote for the favored-for-second) candidate wold be. Time enough for settling, after the jungle primary is over.
37 asses need kicking.
What do those faggots even say to defend their ridiculous position?
It can and it does.
