Venezuela's 'socialist paradise' turns into a nightmare: medical shortages claim lives (shortened)
The Telegraph ^ | 2/3/15 | Peter Foster,

Mr Chavez might be dead, but as one of Latin America’s most charismatic political performers, he is far from forgotten.

His placid features still stare out from billboards in Caracas, while Venezuelan television still plays his rambling speeches denouncing America, capitalism and the West.

He promised the people the riches of the revolution, and for a while he was able to deliver, thanks to his country being blessed with the world’s largest proven oil reserves.

Isn’t Venezuela the utopia that obama and the communist liberals want to bring to America. Oh, I can’t wait for the food lines/s. Liberals/communists/marxists think they are so intellectually superior (I believe a college made that assesment) but everything they touch rots.

Typical of socialist paradises all over the world. Plenty of government control and plenty of misery.

They took over a Walgreens/CVS type chain and jailed the CEO and others, accusing them of not selling stuff. Ridiculous charges.

Can't sell from empty shelves.

I’m sure 100 years from now, some hard-leftist Richard Head will be saying “ It works, we just didn’t do it right”

Those ordered to stock the shelves with whatever they have - the prudent shopper buys enough Pepsi and toothpaste for the next three years. Eventually, he’ll find toothbrushes and should buy three years of those. That’s what we’ve done forever having to deal with our US chain grocery idiot manager. Down through history people have drip dried or used washable rags before modern day tp.

Why can’t they use an online grocery site to get what they want? With shipping and handling it would be cheaper than buying it off the black market. Or can they not use the internet? There have been reports of jail time when driving across to Columbia (?) to buy things.

Every other illegal in the world has found his way to freebie US medical facilities. If they can’t walk across the border and give the BP the super duper secret handshake, then start a FB campaign to get specialists we can’t afford to go down there and do the procedure for free.

There was a thread about gangsters killing cops to get their guns. It won’t be long before the “good” guys start having to resort to such.

No, it can’t be. That must be one of the state-subsidized grocery stores Chavez put in the barrio “food deserts” to ensure proper pricing, quality, and availability for the proletariat.

Black markets? That's racist!

How do we know the Govt itself isn't the one supplying the black market products to squeeze the oppressed people?

Hello Sinola Cartell, and Ricky Holder!

They have to ration how much everyone can buy, they even fingerprint them to make sure they don't double-dip

Ain't socialism grand?

“It’s the government who is responsible for my wife’s death, not the doctors,” Mr Perez, 63, told The Telegraph last week. “Things are very bad in this country, and they are getting worse. I feel that we are in a dictatorship. At the start I believed in Chavez, now I can’t look at him. He is in the best place now.”

Venezuala is our future and this comment is the future comment of the typical obama voter....

How soon before this stuff is snatched up for fair distribution to the people?

Nice to see you figure out the truth Mr. Perez and it only cost you your wife. Hard to have any sympathy for a guy who supported Chavez until it finally cost him personally. If only all Chavez supporters could learn this lesson without dragging the good people down with them.

Overweight is not healthy. Many years ago when going to college in Mexico, I had to live for 3 weeks on $5 dollars. I gained 10 pounds eating rolls and tortillas, and pastries my school mates did not eat and gave to me. When the summer was over and I returned to healthy eating in the US I lost that 10 pounds.

they call it arbitrage

plus price controls means that items that actually get imported cannot be sold for anywhere near breaking even, and it is easier and more profitable to smuggle it to Colombia

They have universal bad health care, and universal misery. Guess that’s what they mean by equality.

When Price Controls enter, shelves become bare and products unavailable.

Learned that first hand as a young adult during Nixon’s Price Controls.
