My friend Michael Medved announced to listeners today that he is fighting cancer. I have known a bit longer, but because he is my friend and because he lives the healthiest of lifestyles, the news is still a shock. But here's the thing about Michael-he is the only one I know who could get a diagnosis like this and greet it with a smile.
When he told me that he had cancer, it was immediately followed with the reminder that he was not a man to be pitied-he was not a victim. He intended to fight cancer and beat it, but come what may, he had been blessed with an extraordinary life, the best of marriage and family, a wonderful career, and that God's will must ultimately be done. Now I've had loved ones fight cancer and beat it, and I've lost loved ones to cancer, but I've never been the one comforted by a loved one telling me of their own diagnosis. But then Michael Medved is always extraordinary. I watched him give a speech last weekend at the Roanoke Convention, the annual gathering of Washington State Conservatives.
At this speech, I doubt anyone noticed Michael was sick. He fired off a rousing speech without a text, brought forth three historical quotations from memory and closed it off flawlessly. And I'd be willing to bet that not a single person in that room outside his family knew that he was sick. I was so impressed I texted Danny Medved in mid-speech, "You're dad is such a pro!" The Cultural Crusader, like Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks, plays through pain and comes out stronger. Who else could announce such news and use it to highlight the triumphs of others?
Michael's prognosis has only improved with treatment and now stands at very, very good. I am glad for listeners because I have heard so many times from them how they enjoy learning from his daily dose of debate. I am glad for my profession. I think Michael elevates talk radio and brings knowledge to it like no one else. But of course the primary joy comes from the fact that he is my friend, and for his millions of listeners-even those who have never met him personally--I am betting you feel the same way-when you listen, you listen to a friend-his triumphs are yours, his trials as well.
May God bless Michael Medved, our Cultural Crusader and friend with a curing of this affliction so that he can return swiftly and remind us daily of the many reasons why we are blessed to live in this, the Greatest Nation on God's Green Earth!
Sorry I am not a fan of his but Prayers up to him and his family cancer sucks
Prayers up.....
God bless Michael Medved! Prayers going to heaven right this moment on his behalf.
Prayers!
I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and given 6 months max to live in February 2013. I am here today cancer free thanks to major chemo and radiation and God’s miracle. There is no trace I ever had cancer. Miracles do happen, I know!
I know that a lot of us are disappointed at how "moderate" he has become politically, but let's all pray for him.
I don’t always agree with Michael but he is one of the best prepared radio guys and his knowledge of history is remarkable. I hope the treatments are successful.
Prayers & good wishes to Michael Medved.
I couldn’t have said it better.
The article didn’t give his Hebrew name and his mother’s name (which is what you use for praying for healing). Does anyone know? I would have thought he would have given it out for this.
Michael ben Shoshana Gittel
Thank you, Mencken!
Always enjoyed his show...
My prayer....Is this:
That Mr. Medved will finally accept the fact that Jesus Christ is His Beloved Messiah that was talked about so much by Daniel, Moses, Isaiah, & David, and that he will come to know True Salvation only Found in Christ Jesus.
The Great I AM that created him and died for him almost 2,000 years ago is waiting patiently for him....all he has do do is believe (which is hard I understand).
Medved knows the NT so he’s aware of all the verses. Life is short and big decisions need to be made.
John 6:29
John 14:6
Romans 10:9-10
I’m sure you will live long and healthy by God’s grace. :)
FYI, Michael Medved has stage 3 squamous cell throat cancer. He added that he fully expects to survive the ordeal. Before temporarily ending his personal broadcasts, Mr. Medved posted A PERSONAL NOTE TO MY RADIO FAMILY, which may be read at the Michael Medved website:
http://www.michaelmedved.com/column/personal-note-radio-family/
I echo everything you wrote, except I would condition it by noting that the Scriptures place this “turning”, this repentance, in God’s hands...not Michael’s.
Rom. 9
Eph. 1, 2
Gal. 4
He’s one of the Chosen People. He’ll do fine.
And yet most folks (much less the Chosen folks) end up in Hades because they think they’ll do “fine” on their own.
Acts 4:11-12
This world is a spiritual war zone and the only One who can save is Christ. Hebrews 1:1-2
Please let Michael believe what he believes as he would do to you.
Im sure you will live long and healthy by Gods grace. :)
I walk in God’s grace every day and thank Him for my blessing, His mercy, bountiful blessings! God is no respecter of persons so Mr. Medved has God’s attention as well.
