( Gov. Chris Christie arrived at a ballroom in Midtown Manhattan on Jan. 31, 2014, to celebrate Howard Sterns birthday.)
As Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey waited to depart on a trade mission to Israel in 2012, his entourage was delayed by a late arrival: Mr. Christies father, who had accidentally headed to the wrong airport.
A commercial flight might have left without him, but in this case, there was no rush. The private plane, on which Mr. Christie had his own bedroom, had been lent by Sheldon G. Adelson, the billionaire casino owner and supporter of Israel. At the time, he was opposing legislation then before the governor to legalize online gambling in New Jersey.
Mr. Christie loaded the plane with his wife, three of his four children, his mother-in-law, his father and stepmother, four staff members, his former law partner and a state trooper.

Mr. Christie has described it as a matter of opportunity. I relish these experiences and exposures, especially for my kids, he told a reporter for The Times last summer. I try to squeeze all the juice out of the orange that I can.

State taxpayers paid for Mr. Christie, his wife and two aides to travel to the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans, as New Jersey prepared to host the 2014 game. Airfare for four passengers came to $8,146; Mr. Christies hotel for three nights cost $3,371.

Let us see, however, an equally exposing report on Mrs. Clinton regarding her convoluted past, an article on where the extra money from President Obama's billion dollar campaign fund has gone, and could you trace where the money (from our government) that is being funneled into the private insurance companies is going ? That would be the money that our government is giving directly to private companies - the money that our children are going to have to pay back. Americans tire of one sided reporting while our country, now reduced to pitiful status, has been brought to the verge of collapse by both parties.
Some people "squeeze the orange" to get everything they can out of life by working. Others do it by going to lots of parties and occasionally pretending to work.
I know Christie's type.
I’m not a Christie supporter, but I must say I find it a bit strange that Christie (a Republican) is being criticized for something that ALL Democrats typically do. The Democrats like to hang out with the Hollywoodelite, and the MSM has nothing but praise for them.
So, as far as I am concerned, the MSm can KMA.
I would love to see the Republicans in Congress aggressively attack the partisan MSM and neuter it. I’m tired of seeing it operate as a tool of the Liberals.
Sounds like a low-cost version of obama and moochelle.
“The private plane, on which Mr. Christie had his own bedroom....”
Champion of the common man!
The press should attack Christie and his ilk. It’s recognition that mainstream Republicans expect more of our politicians than dems expect. Granted, it’s a constant struggle once they get to DC and their attitudes and true political tendencies emerge, but we hold them accountable. My argument would be that this is just more proof that Christie is not a constitutional conservative. He’s just another elitist who wants to be king of the elite.
I try to squeeze all the juice out of the orange that I can.
I bet he does.
I imagine the Romney VP vetting team found more than enough on Christie in 2012 to keep him from serious GOPe backing.
I find the bedroom a plus to save time while traveling overseas....in fact, if he had to spend an extra night in London to get sleep, it would cost an additional $10,000. So putting a bed in an airplane was a cost saver, since it takes how many hours to get from NYC to London??
Imho, I think a bunch of Christie haters just want to eliminate him before the primaries. We will see how much Cruz and the others spend on themselves for things you think are expensive. Look at BILLIONS the Obama’s have spent for a few vacations.
I want Scott Walker, who has proven himself as President. So it’s not that I am a Christie supporter.
As a practical matter I see this trip to London a good idea for Gov Christie. Some of the others need foreign exposure to the real world abroad.
However, I find this gossip and condemnation silly and childish over a place to sleep going overseas. If he has children, I am sure they take naps, or his father who is OLD, it’s a convenience for him or family...sheesh.
He is the governor of NJ, and those expenses listed are reasonable for why he is going for his state. At least he will see how Cameron really is. AS for all his social engagements, it goes with the territory to expose oneself to possible donors and future supporters.
And I think that goes for all candidates not just Christie.
I think any time a Elected Official takes a trip and decides to take any of his or her family along it should be required that all cost of commercial travel, meals and housing computed for them should be paid directly to the general fund of the State or Federal budget before the trip out of the Official’s income.
We elect the Individual not their kids, spouses, parents or inlaws. These Multi-million dollar junkets and vacations would end.
I despise Christie.
That said, I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ONE *******G WORD OUT OF MSN ABOUT CHRISTIE ABUSING PERKS, WHEN THEY WON’T SAY A *******N WORD ABOUT OBAMA DOING TRIPLE THAT
I’m not going to defend NJ Fats, but this NY Times piece is a nothing more than a hit-job by the Drive Bys.
NY Times readers are among the most duped and ignorant low-information voters.
The Obamas live large off whatever fat there is left in the land, with travel budgets exceeding a billion $$. Crickets.
Yup.
No fan of Christie, but where are NBC’s hit pieces on Obozo mooching off taxpayers and living great off his fat cap pals, who are then rewarded with federal cntracts. SOLYNDRA anyone?
Please, no more jokes about Governor Crisco. Hurtful & insensitive.
;^)
Christie is “livin large”.
Now we know why he wants to be president. Air Force One.
I don’t disagree on that, and I think the bills should be separate from Hotels, restaurants, and other expenses.
