A 9-year-old Texas boy was suspended from school after pretending to have the magic Hobbit ring from "The Lord of the Rings" and its prequel, telling a schoolmate that he would make him "disappear."
Aiden Steward had recently watched The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies with his family when he took his imagination to school in Kermit, Texas, his father, Jason Steward, told the New York Daily News.
When he heard that his son was suspended for making terroristic threats saying hed make someone disappear Steward told the Daily News it was "unbelievable."

I read up on this story and did a fair amount of research. There’s a fact or two left out of the story. This is Kermit, Texas....way out on the west end of the state, with 6,000 residents. There’s a large segment of town which are Pentecostals in terms of faith.
If you stood around and talked Harry Potter stuff with magic wands, witches, Merlin-swords in stone, temptation by women with snaky-hair, or One-rings...around extremely conservative Pentecostal folks....they’d get all freaked out.
That’s what this story is really about. If you notice...the school director won’t comment in public about this at all. I think he’s embarrassed, but he had some parent who got all peeved and worried about One-ring voo-doo and secret powers.
My word...the stupidly never ends...
More idiocy from the supposedly “professional” educrats?
I suspect this’ll be from the Austin area...
Once knew a similar type of believer who would not buy a “Red Devil” vacuum cleaner...that was in Texas too...
It’s interesting that, as this story ages, the writers seem to know less and less about “The Hobbit.”
Gee...make that dirt devil...the machine is red...
I worked with a Pentecostal guy who was all big into science fiction/fantasy movies and 1970s cartoons like Space Ghost/Johnny Quest. I noted to him that his interest ran counter to the group and he admitted his local minister was really negative against this type of stuff....so he had to be ‘quiet’ about watching such things and made sure he never mentioned this to his wife (she was very conservative). I always laughed about his secrecy stuff....kinda like keeping a mistress in the garage.
9 years old!!!
I have posted this before and I’ll post it again. This CRAP will stop when parents get together and 80% of them have their kids make finger guns at school and shout bang! These idiot educrats can’t suspend or expel them all, they won’t have a job - they’ll lose their little fiefdoms and the school boards will have to address this immediately.
It’s not just Texas...it’s up here in blue PA.
My next to youngest son played basketball straight thru HS (and is on practice squad at his college). Since he was about 6 or 7 he has been a HUGE Duke Basketball fan. He admires Coach K (In fact HIS Twitter got loaded by friends congratulating on Coach K’s 1K win). Needless to say most of his childhood wardrobe involved Blue Devil attire.
TWICE it was pointed out to me that the Blue Devil was INAPPROPRIATE. In gyms.
Ah, the silliness of youth.
If he REALLY wanted to make a classmate disappear, all he had to do was place a call to Valerie Jarrett...
LOL!
(cyber high five on that one )
WINS FR this morning!!!
...I guess the Grumman F6 Hellcat fighter and Curtis SB2C Helldiver bomber would be just out.
Dear SMG,
Again, as I had written in the original newspiece on FR, The point you brought out is where I had pointed the finger.
It is by the teacher’s reaction, that the teacher legitimized the fanciful idea of the existence of ‘magick’.
As to the labeling of ‘pentecostals’, I agree you hit the ten-x ring, with that!
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any sillier.
Apparently this 9yr old is a terrorist but the Taliban aren’t
He is lucky that he didn’t point his finger at another kid and say bang. That would have gotten him expelled.
Child has a history with this school.
Previous suspensions for bringing in “Big Book of Knowledge” which had a picture of a pregnant woman. Unauthorized sex education? Unauthorized pro-life education? Look at the naked lady snickers?
Another for calling a classmate black classmate black. In anger or insult? Or just matter of fact statement?
After three or four suspensions in six months, I’d be thinking home schooling or moving.
So, it’s either Hogwarts or homeschooling for this kid?
