SAN ANTONIO -- Thousands of immigrants seeking legalization through the U.S. court system have had their hearings canceled and are being told by the government that it may be 2019 or later before their futures are resolved.
Some immigration lawyers fear the delay will leave their clients at risk of deportation as evidence becomes dated, witnesses disappear, sponsoring relatives die and dependent children become adults.
The increase in cancellations began late last summer after the Justice Department prioritized the tens of thousands of Central American migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, most of them mothers with children and unaccompanied minors.
Immigration lawyers in cities that absorbed a large share of those cases, including New York, San Antonio, Los Angeles and Denver, say they've had hearings canceled with little notice and received no new court dates. Work permits, green cards, asylum claims, and family reunifications hang in the balance.
Denver immigration lawyer David Simmons said he's never seen such a standstill in nearly 30 years of practice. "There is no maneuverability," he said. "It's as if we have no court at all."

And, where do they go, with what diseases (measles for ex), and what will they be doing (collecting EBT and healthcare subsidy/coverage) in the meantime for their “hearing” they will never appear for?
Sounds like they are saying that those seeking citizenship the legal way are being delayed in favor of those here illegally?
Pathetic, and the illegal alien lovers say we can’t afford to deport them all. I believe we should take the chance of bankruptcy and deport them, forget these hearings.
We’ll actually be ahead just from the savings on additional welfare benefits on these illegals through 2019.
That means they are effectively legal until 2019.
I am at the end of my rope!!!
“...those seeking citizenship the legal way are being delayed in favor of those here illegally?”
sounds about right!
Ain’t the ‘Obama Brotherhood’ great??
At first glance I though maybe the story was that the glut of illegals was squeezing out the legal immigrants.
But after reading the article it would appear it is illegals whining about being squeezed by other illegals.
Their solution?
Make the taxpayers spend more money to help them.
WTH???
Weren’t they, just last year, extolling the virtues of the Naturalization Process and that, like the Post Office, it was self funded by fees?
The communist Obama regime does this crap intentionally. It’s just kicking the can down the road only to be forgotten. The little Kenyan boy is doing the same thing to his communist ObamaCare scam. Once is been around for a while, people don’t care anymore. Indict the Kenyan now! He should be in prison!
It sounds to me that obama is using a bit of lynch blackmail.
I think they are delaying the hearings so that the illegals have a chance to have anchor babies in the U.S., and I bet they are receiving taxpayer paid assistance courtesy of their benefactor...........Lord Foul.
In the Obama dictionary,
Lawful immigrants here to make a positive contribution to America = bad
Illegal invaders here to mooch and destroy and spread disease and lawlessness = good
These delays are another way to stick Americans with a bigger bill while grinding down what's left of the "justice" system, regardless of the types of foreigners involved.
Obama intends to destroy America, by any means necessary.
I would like to see a lot of people that way.
Cloward-Piven is King.
Yep I got a long list!!!
“so that the illegals have a chance to have anchor babies in the U.S.”
If the GOP cowards that we elect would challenge the anchor baby interpretation of the 14th Amendment then this wouldn’t be an issue.
But they won’t change it because the GOP establishment is part of the treason lobby.
