Obama budget sets up battle with GOP-controlled Congress

WASHINGTON (AP) — After a year of relative peace in Washington's budget battles, President Barack Obama will lay out a $4 trillion budget on Monday that needles Republicans with proposals for higher taxes on the wealthy and businesses to pay for education, public works projects and child care.

The plan, expected to be dismissed by GOP lawmakers now running Capitol Hill, rolls out as the deficit is dropping and Obama's poll numbers inch higher. Though Republicans will march ahead on their own, they ultimately must come to terms with Obama, whose signature is needed on anything that is going to become law.

Big challenges loom: the need to increase the government's borrowing limit; a deadline for sustaining highway funding; a bipartisan effort to ease painful, automatic cuts to the Pentagon and domestic agencies. Those cuts are the byproduct of Washington's previous failures to tackle the government's deficit woes.

First on the agenda is the need to finalize the current-year budget for the Department of Homeland Security. It's tied up over a GOP demand to reverse Obama's November executive actions that extended work permits and temporary deportation relief to some 4 million people in the U.S. illegally. Funding for the department runs out Feb. 27. Obama planned a budget speech at the department Monday.

And here I thought that the Congress [the House of Representatives, in particular] passed budgets.
Oh, right, Republicans have no fortitude and will not stand up against anything. (But they're better than the Democrats! I hear you screaming.)

If everyone plays true to form the Republicans will threaten to strip the new taxes out of the budget and the new expenses like free Community College. The Sultan will threaten to veto and Congress will back down and pass the budget with everything just as the Sultan demands plus more money for new projects dreamed up by Republicans. If the Sultan is really on the ball, he will counter the threat to strip his taxes out with a demand for even more taxes and spending because of the delay in Congress. The Republicans will gladly succumb to anything he comes up with.

I know at least two Obama budgets were voted down in the Democrat controlled Senate by votes on the order of 97-3 and I think one was 99-0. I’ll bet this year every dem votes with Obama and the media will report that the Republicans are racist.

My money’s on Obama.

The two rubes from the rural midwest - Boner and Barney Googleyes - have been shellacked by the street gangster every time.

They have the votes but he has the initiative. Does what he wants and laughs at them.

Pair of hapless bumpkins, gettin rolled by a gangbanger.

”… to pay for education, public works projects and child care."

The states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific powers to regulate, tax and spend for any of the federal vote-winning issues above where intrastate policy is concerned.

Patriots need to wake up constitutionally clueless state lawmakers to stop the corrupt feds from stealing state revenues by means of unconstitutional federal taxes. The states will then be able to afford to run their own social-spending programs, depending on what a given state’s legal majority voters want.

So did HE actually make a budget? After all these years? What else? Is there something we should know?

Whatever happened to the existing tax dollars to unconstitutionally have Washington pay for domestic “ education, public works projects and child care.”?

"Republicans want to shut down the government"

They are talking about FY 2016 budget.

The GOP hasn't fully funded the FY 2015 budget, holding back funding for DHS.

The GOP has to deal with this soon and they are in a predicament. If the tea party anarchists refuse to co-operate, Boehner won't have enough votes to pass anything and will have to turn to the democrats to get enough votes, which means he either caves to the tea party or he caves to the democrats.

The right thing to do is pass a respectable budget that leaves $0 for the White Hut staff operations, parties, travel etc. Let him live like his homies or pay for it himself.

I kinda changed my mind on somethings. If the wealthy are going to promote amnesty, fight the tea party and use their media to smear us freepers then why the hell shouldn’t they pay more taxes. I used to support every tax cut imaginable especially for these upper class pinkos and feckless country clubbers but not any more.
