Critics of marijuana legalization love to argue about its repercussions for the childrenpaging Nancy Gracebut the American Academy of Pediatrics seems to disagree. The group has now appealed to the Drug Enforcement Agency to reclassify marijuana and allow them to research its medical benefits for children, the Wall Street Journal reports. They have also asked the federal government to permit marijuana use by children with serious conditions.
Marijuana is currently listed as a Schedule 1 drug by the federal government, classifying it with drugs like heroin. This scheduling prohibits research by ranking marijuana as having no acceptable medical use.
A Schedule 1 listing means theres no medical use or helpful indications, but we know thats not true because there has been limited evidence showing [marijuana] may be helpful for certain conditions in adults, an AAP member who crafted the groups statement told the Wall Street Journal. And there could be therapeutic benefits.
The AAP suggests making marijuana instead a Schedule 2 druga drug with high potential for abuse, like morphine, but which can still be used for legitimate medical treatments.
Marijuana is considered by many to have high potential for treating conditions like epilepsy.
The AAP still opposes outright legalization, according to their position paper, but does back decriminalization.

War on Drugs Nanny State PING!
This is what happens when liberals take control of the leadership of professional groups. You would be hard pressed to find ten private practice pediatricians who would endorse this policy. These “professional” groups including the AMA are composed of full time academic, government and hospital employed physicians. Most private physicians won’t pay dues and do not feel these “professional” groups are anything more than liberal advocacy groups.
This article should perhaps have clarified that one particular component of cannabis, cannabidiol, or CBDs, is showing the most promise for medical applications. CBDs don’t get an individual ‘high’.

Maybe the DEA can come up with a mutally beneficial solution with the pediatricians. The DEA can supply the drugs, and the pediatricians can supply the kids. That will make all the pedophiles happy.
Thanks for the ping!
Why don’t they just lobotomize all the children and be done with their cause.
research does need to be done in this area. currently there is a treatment for seizure that uses a specific breed of marijuana plant called charlets Web the plant has very little THC in it witch is what all the stoners want. what it has that benefits those that have epilepsy is the CBD chemical compound which has proven to be a god send to children. I am very critical of how medical marijuana has been implemented I would love to see it dispensed only from a pharmacy and only under strict guid lines. in the states that now have medical marijuana. you can get a prescription because you stubbed your toe.
I saw a magazine on the rack at the grocery store tonight with red, white and blue colors and the words “WEED NATION>”
Made me sick.
Maybe they can combine the research with the homosexual indoctrination sessions in the public “schools”. Thanks Tolerance Sucks Rocks.
Absolutely not. But by all means, keep pumping the kiddies full of the toxic crap that generates profits for Big Pharma.
Yeah, like Gardasil.
It’s is bad enough we adults are Big Pharma’s guinea pigs, now they want our kids to be too.

There are analgesic properties, antibiotic properties, antianxiety properties, etc.
If these things can be separated from the rest of the plant, then great. If not, a patient can set the temperature on their vaporizer to extract (mostly) only the things they want.
I was researching electronic components for a DIY project and came across a discussion of the components on a medical cannabis website. I read all the comments on the site, and it became apparent that these were not 18 year olds wanting to get wasted: they all had serious medical maladies that greatly reduced their quality of life. Multiple Sclerosis was just the starting point for these folks.
A repeating meme was that husbands were making cannabis extracts and products for their sick wives who refused to smoke it due to their social programming. That made me sad: If a family member was sick or dying and I had the means to improve their life and make it more tolerable, I would move heaven and earth to do that, no matter what the law or public opinion said.
Any evidence regarding what "most private physicians" do and think?
As would I - but the feds won't permit that.
LEAP donor here! Can I be in your group? :)
