The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists says Earth is now closer to human-caused doomsday than it has been in more than 30 years because of global warming and nuclear weaponry. But other experts say that’s way too gloomy.
The advocacy group founded by the creators of the atomic bomb moved their famed “Doomsday Clock” ahead two minutes on Thursday. It said the world is now three minutes from a catastrophic midnight, instead of five minutes.
“This is about doomsday; this is about the end of civilization as we know it,” bulletin executive director Kennette Benedict said at a news conference in Washington.
She called both climate change and modernization of nuclear weaponry equal but undeniable threats to humanity’s continued existence that triggered the 20 scientists on the board to decide to move the clock closer to midnight. …

“Heck, let’s give them another minute...”

The end of civilization as we know it... One man’s doomsday is another man’s utopia.
This bunch has always gotten more attention than it deserved. Their goal from jump street was to acare Americans into supporting disarmament, unilateral if necessary.
Doomsday would be a full nuclear exchange, and even then, it would not be the end of the world.
They were always a bunch of Chicken Littles, but at least during the Cold War there was something to base it on.
But now? They are just moving it up because they haven't been in the news for years and their dues paying members are all dying off. They need a new batch of bat crap crazy lefties to fill the empty chairs.

This group now has zero credibility. They are tool for the political elite.
I sense a little bit of mission creep, or envy that global warmers took their scam and are doing better then they are.

I had that exact scene in my head when I read the title
Disingenuous. That is what they are. Ignore three melted reactors that continue to pour deadly nuclear radioactive elements into the Pacific Ocean every day. Ignore that real threat and worry about a non-threat, global warming which has stopped. And a potential threat that only governments hold over our heads, nuclear annihilation. Governments could remove the threat of nuclear annihilation tomorrow. But they won’t. It gives them power and that is what they desire most.
Oops we misread the clock. That should be 3 minutes to noon instead of midnight.
