Santorum is such a rino it’s hard to know if he really believes what he says.
Rick Santorum is my candidate now.
Rick is dead on target here, and I do believe most of us approve of legal immigration, within limits.
Rick is right. We are being gamed across the board, by legal and illegal immigrants. (well not them actually...)
We are being gamed by the social engineers in our government.
BIG TIME!
America needs more legal immigration and it needs to deport illegals.
Are you insane, or just a democrat?
Third world people will come here by the 100s of millions if we let them, and do it without welfare or social programs.
If you live on a dirt floor struggling to live and to eat, and to treat illness, then you would prefer to do that in San Diego, or Anchorage, or Honolulu, than in the backwaters of third world countries, even if there was no welfare or government checks.
Alan Combes. Really? A wild eyed liberal if there ever was one.
“America needs more legal immigration and it needs to deport illegals.”
Methinks you are missing the point completely. We cannot absorb the worlds poor and we need our better jobs to go to American born citizens. Period.
Deporting the illegals is a no brainer. The problem is we have far too many legal immigrants coming in as well. Social engineering at its worst. Our culture and livelihoods are paying the price for it.
bump
Just to clarify...I am a legal immigrant and no American can do my job (actually any American can do my job - its just that the company’s profit would be materially less with the American than me). You see some people aren’t just burger flippers. Some legal immigrants are traders, pro athletes, movie stars, etc. These people can’t simply be replaced by Americans. Try telling the San Antonio Spurs they need to hire only Americans, for example.
I don’t care if I sound arrogant but I want to be clear there would be significant hardship for many, many Americans if I was not permitted to work here.
Legal immigration is critical as some of us contribute enough to the American economy to feed hundreds of Americans. Beware you don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater.
“I dont care if I sound arrogant but I want to be clear there would be significant hardship for many, many Americans if I was not permitted to work here.”
google “narcissism”
There was a constant labor shortage in the US in the late 19th and early 20th century. They would hire men who could breathe and who looked sturdy right off the boats. Those were the days, I remember them well...:). As late as the 1950’s, Detroit would send buses down to the South and PAY FOR MOVING factory workers up north and front them a down payment.*
But now, things are different.
As an indicator of how the economy is “improving”...I can count on one hand the # of jobs in my field that paid relocation in the last 7 years. Before then, it was common.
I hope one day we can close our border to scum like you. Go back to wherever you came from. Also, if you do breed, which I hope you don't, you will be a parent of an American who will compete with likes of you undercutting them. That is after you paid 100,000 grand to educate them.
So I need to go back where I came from but Tony Parker, Jon Ryan, Manu Ginobli, and hundreds of other athletes who perform for your amusement can stay?
You’re a scab they are not. Huge difference.
Unfortunately, things have gotten so bad that the common sense assertion that illegal immigrants should be deported (i.e. enforce existing laws) has become controversial even with the Republican Party, which is why the immigration debate should for now focus on the illegal issue. Only when that issue is dealt with can legal immigration restrictions be put back on the table.
In other words, "solve" the problem of illegal immigration by allowing people in legally who hitherto would have tried to enter illegally. The net result is exactly the same.
I’m normally not a fan of Santorum, but those who attack him on this issue have yet to make a case for why serving as the dumping ground for the dregs of Third World countries is a net plus for America.
