Papal Text Says Man Betrays God by Destroying the Environment

MANILA — Pope Francis waded into the global debate on climate change and the environment on Sunday, saying in the text of a speech that man was destroying nature and betraying God's calling to be stewards of creation.

Francis offered his thoughts about the environment and climate change for the second time in four days at a rally with young people at a Manila university on the last full day of a week-long Asian tour that has taken him to Sri Lanka and the Philippines.

He did not read all of a speech prepared for delivery at the university, improvising after he was moved by the story of an abandoned girl. When he does this, the Vatican says the prepared text is official.

"As stewards of God’s creation, we are called to make the earth a beautiful garden for the human family. When we destroy our forests, ravage our soil and pollute our seas, we

betray that noble calling," he said in the text.

Another line he read to the crowd noted that "this country, more than many others, is likely to be seriously affected by climate change".

Did the pope fly to Manila in coach on a regular scheduled airline flight, or did he charter a jet?

If it’s the latter, he should practice what he preaches when it comes to the environment.

Worship The Creator not the things He created.

“So every time we build a road or clear off an acre for a house, we are committing a sin?”

The pope is worried about rising waters. Perhaps he thinks he is Noah.

And the pope does it again

Don't worry. The Vatican will "clarify" his comments on Monday, and chastise people for "taking the Holy Father's words out of context."

So, God created this planet and within it, the hydrocarbon reserves that now fuel its inhabitants’ way of life. And by burning these same hydrocarbons, we are going to “kill” his creation? I don’t think so. Sounds like Gaia worship to me.

We’ll get a good dose of that “clarification” and chastisement from our catholic FRiends right here on FR too.

I swear, if the pope ordered the burning of protestant churches tomorrow, a few would speak out; most would ignore him; but there’d be a few “good catholics” who would bop down to the MegaMarket for gasoline and lighters.

They have to. If the "vicar of Christ on earth" is wrong, their faith is shattered.

If the church where I worship suddenly had a leader or pastor emerge to started uttering completely un-Biblical tirades, I would leave, and find another place to worship Christ. And my faith in Jesus would not be shaken one iota because some loon fell through the cracks.

Because my faith is not in man, but in Him.

My hope is built on nothing less than JESUS’ blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on JESUS’ name!

On CHRIST the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand —

all other ground IS sinking sand.

So blowing smoke when a Pope is selected isn’t symbolic.

Great hymn.

I was thinking about the great Louis Zamperini the other day. Olympian, NCAA record setter for the mile in the 1930's, WW II hero, survivor of 47 days on a life raft in the Pacific, former POW, and born-again Christian.

Zamperini was raised a Catholic, but knew nothing of Jesus Christ unitil he was in his 30's. His post-war life had become a living hell. He was a severe alcoholic, his marriage was falling apart, he was failing to support even the basic needs of his wife and little daughter. Then he met Billy Graham, and he gave his life to Christ.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RplIfPcCGkw

Immediately, he gave up drinking, smoking, and pornography. His nightmares ended immediately. He still had struggles, and tribulation, but he was a "new creature" (his words) after accepting Christ.

He devoted his life to Christian mentoring, speaking, and helping boys who were in trouble with the law.

Many Catholics would respond by calling Zamperini a "lapse Catholic", and only lament that he was "no longer following the Catholic church." I have seen it here on this forum when people who were raised Catholic now declare themselves followers of Christ.

Now, think of the illogic of that, not to mention the spiritual mockery that is made of Zamperini's devotion to Jesus Christ.

"That is akin to asserting that someone who opposes Affirmative Action automatically supports racism."

That's exactly the opposite of what I was saying. To apply my logic to race, I would say, "It's one thing to oppose affirmative action or reparations for slavery because you think they are bad ideas, but it's another thing to behave in an overtly racist manner towards people."

Where is the Real Pope? This clown is obviously a Occupy Now plant.

He went through the process of the Church to become Pope - religion is man-made and fallible because of the "man" part in it. John Paul II also got into the environment deal, but most don't/won't discuss it.

If you have a leaky roof in your house and try to fix it, or hire someone to do so, are you worshipping your house, or merely taking care (stewardship) of your home?

He (Pope Francis) comes from South America where a great deal of the rainforest is being destroyed by gold mining. Prior to that, it was land development for resorts and corporations. This is an issue he has grown up with, as we grew up with air pollution from factories, and exhaust emissions from cars (that’s what the catalytic converter was for). It was a big issue in my day, and while I’m no environmentalist, the air in my neck of the woods has become clearer and easier to breathe over the years. In addition, isn’t it a good idea to regulate medical waste to avoid the spread of disease, not to mention the appearance of used hypodermic needles on beaches. I don’t favor extremism, but one has to admit that we have abused the gift of the earth given to us by God.

Check the Vatican website to see what he actually says: quotes, documents. EWTN radio has video on TV and the internet, as well as mobile streaming. Read both sides of the issue as opposed to excerpts from the MSM. At least you’ll have both sides of the issue from which to draw your conclusions.
