My great x 3 grandfather from NC had slaves and fought for the Confederacy under Lee at Gettysburg. His ancestors were from Jamestown.

Is my family not "American?"

Lee was a man who betrayed his oath as a graduate of West Point to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States, Lee not only took up arms against his country but also arguably, by his participation, caused untold death and destruction and the elongation of the War of Secession.
