By DAVID ZUCCHINO
The director of the Islamic Studies Center at Duke is 'sick to my stomach' over Muslim prayer controversy
The director of the Islamic Studies Center at Duke University, which canceled plans to broadcast a weekly call to Muslim prayers from its famed chapel amid intense controversy and threats, said Friday that he was "sick to my stomach" and disappointed by the episode.
"I am disappointed, because Id like to think we are better than this...better than being intimidated and pressured, '' Omid Safi, director of the program, said in an email to the Los Angeles Times.

Protest peacefully and do not patronize any Muslim owned businesses in your area.
I am sick to my stomach that Muslims behead innocent women and children on a daily basis, all to make their “God” happy
Excellent and so well put!
Here’s an excellent comment from the Duke University Facebook page, where they are taking the heat for this:
“Will women still be allowed to drive on campus on “call to prayer day?” Has the chancellor decided what day you’ll throw gays off the bell tower? Will Duke have disposable hijab stations so women will cover themselves so as not to offend Muslims on campus? I suppose the football field during the off season would be the best place to stone adulterous women. The religion of peace is known for its tolerance so I’m sure they’re flexible about location. WOW. Institution of high learning? I think not.”—M. Hicks
The minarets need blasting as well.
Wow, that picture is the stuff of nightmares.
Very creative!
Look.. we dont ask to to do Christian rituals in a mosque and Muslims should not ask to do Islamic rituals in a Christian Church.....
thats called being fair and respecting each other...
Or are you really willing to have Christian Church Bells calling Christian to prayer in the top of a mosque minaret?
Does he get sick to his stomach when he sees a beheading or a stoning?
If Omid Safi can find ONE mosque in the Middle East that plays Christmas bells in December I’ll stand with him.
Sorry Omid - I don’t feel guilt for Muslims - you weren’t brought here against your will in slave ships. You’re not entitled to a pity party.
Talk your local mosque into running Christmas music in December - then we’ll talk.
You mean people like ISIS, HAMAS, FATAH, Hezbollah, Islamic Brotherhood, Al Quaeda, Taliban, Abu Sayyef ... Right?
Safi???
Duke is Methodist ... but what the heck?
“It makes me sick to my stomach that there are those in the world who find it appropriate to make recourse to violenceeven threats of violenceto justify their means,’’ Safi said.
He just demonstrated his HATE for us by saying this without a hint of irony.
Sort of like the head of the German student’s club asking the Deutschlandlied be played at Duke every Friday in 1943 to prove that the school had moved beyond the war.
To take it over and make it Moslem and what infidel dogs are not killed are to be made Dhimmi
I would have to drive further for gas than a full tank could take me round trip. And all 7-11s and dunkin donuts are out of the question (I do skip those establishments)
Send this ‘director’ a suitcase bought from a Goodwill store, C.O.D. (i’m sure he is getting paid enough American dollars), with one simple note:
“G.T.F.O. ,,, today!”
That was my first thought when I heard about this. If Duke would have allowed this, how would they react if the Newman Center started ringing the Angelus bell?
