Miami (AFP) - This US winter season's flu vaccine has been just 23 percent effective at preventing doctor visits for people of all ages, according to health authorities' early estimates out Thursday.
...The flu vaccine is generally most effective in young, healthy people under 65.
This season, vaccine effectiveness has been highest -- 26 percent -- in those aged six months through 17 years.
Vaccine effectiveness wa s just 12 percent for ages 18 to 49 years and 14 percent for people age 50 years and older, the CDC said.

Needs disclaimer, worthless...ineffective rate 77% to 88%
I don't know if I would describe the shot as a "crutch," but instead, I would call it a "kick-start" for the immune system. It allows the body to start producing antibodies that can help defend against the flu should the person be exposed to the flu later that season.
Read that last part carefully, Freepers. So many people are misinformed, or have unrealistic expectations about what the flu shot does or is supposed to do. It does not prevent you from getting the flu; if you have the flu shot and allow enough time to develop antibodies (about two weeks after receiving the shot) and are later exposed, the vaccine can help your body fight off the flu faster and with less severe symptoms.
Of course, predicting the strain that will emerge season by season is part science, part art. There is some data that suggest even similar vaccines may be partially effective, such as what's going on this year.
...That's because global health experts say the data aren't there yet to support this kind of blanket vaccination policy, nor is there enough money. In fact, some scientists say the enthusiasm for mass vaccination in the United States may hurt efforts to create a better vaccine.
Also there is some evidence that those who get the flu vaccine are more likely to get more serious forms of it later than those who do not get it at all.

My company pays for ours so it’s a no brainer. unfortunately this year I got the flu. No fun...
If you get the flu demand your doctor order vitamin D3 test...your level should be between 50-70....I would bet every flu case has low vitamin D3 levels.
Not to mention the savings in Social Security payouts...
It could just be a coincidence
I’ve been taking diatomaceous earth for the last six months and when I get that weird feeling in my nose and throat that comes before a cold I rub tea tree oil inside my ears and nose
Normally I’ve had at least two colds and or the flu by now. I did get the flu shot this year and I normally get the flu before I can even get my shot.
I am very happy with the diatomaceous earth
I served 26 years on active duty. At times I felt like a pin cushion. I retired and have not had a shot since. I have also only been sick one time since retiring.
Where I work they offered to give us free flu shots and I passed on it. I was one of the few that didn’t get the flu.
MS is supposedly one of the hotbeds - I skipped the shot and haven't had so much as a sniffle yet. The years I got the shot seemed to be sicker years for me.
I guess I am biased because I’m actually old enough to recall the government’s great Swine Flu Immunization Debacle of 1975. Several elderly people in my neighborhood actually died after getting the shot. Another developed Guillain-Barre Syndrome and suffered for many years.
Got the shot, got the flu two days later, then got another strain 6 weeks later...
Not gonna do it again.
I heard someone refer to the CDC as ‘Center for Disease Creation’ on a talk show yesterday...ROTFLMAO!!!
My doctor was just pushing the flu vaccine like crazy this year. I didn’t have the heart to argue with him and tell him its not even effective agains’t the actual flu that’s going around. I just took a pass on it like I do every year.
That would be food grade DE, right?
I’ve never had the shot so i wouldn’t know the difference. Last year I did get it and was pretty bad.....actually didn’t realize just how sick I was....very glad not to have more than a taste of illness this year, thus far.
Yes it is.
Also very good for skin
Stuff took at least ten years off my face
My daughter takes it and it has really helped with her acne
