CORONADO, Calif. (AP) Republican presidential prospect Ben Carson on Thursday compared the Islamic State group to American patriots willing to die for freedom.
In a speech to the Republican National Committee's winter meeting outside San Diego, the former neurosurgeon and conservative favorite praised American patriots for their willingness to give their lives for their beliefs. Then he mentioned the Islamic State group.
"They got the wrong philosophy, but they're willing to die for what they believe, while we are busily giving away every belief and every value for the sake of political correctness," he said as Republican officials from across the country interrupted him with applause. "We have to change that."
Commonly known as ISIS, the Islamic State group has been responsible for hundreds of deaths across the Middle East in recent months. Islamic State militants claimed responsibility for recent beheadings of Western journalists and aid workers. One of the suspects in the recent Paris terror attacks claimed allegiance to the Islamic State group.

A pretty boneheaded comment though.
They need to be dismantled and every employee barred, for life, from working in journalism.
Not an inaccurate statement.
But then the same was true of the SS and Red Guard.
In fact, many if not most evil groups in history have had many if not all of their members brave and committed.
The notion that “bullies are always cowards” is sadly untrue. The world would be a much nicer place if it were.
Carson is a viable candidate in his own mind only. But I agree it was quite a stretch to come to the conclusion they came to.
..... and not just "go-after", but "falsely-conflate".
They kinda blew it, though. To maximize their lie, the headline should have been "Ben Carson Praises ISIS, Wishes Conservatives Would Follow Lead"
Stretch, hell. It was a brazen misrepresenting LIE.
No, not boneheaded. What he actually said was absolutely correct. Why anyone would believe anything that comes out of the AP via Yahoo is beyond me.
Comparing a group which is a negative with a group which is a positive uplifts the bad guys and smears the good guys. Might be better to compare ISIS with misguided Hitler youth or some other nasties.
It’s just true...
If one side... who is 100% wrong... is willing to die for their beliefs... how do you think they are going to do against the other side who is willing to capitulate on all of theirs?
Ben Carson makes another stupid comment...details at 11.
He just isn’t ready for prime time.
He just walked up to the podium, compared ISIS to Patrick Henry and walked away?
True or not, if he’s running for President he’s got to avoid statements like this.
Sorry, not remotely statesmanlike, and if the point was to condemn political correctness he would do better to hold up the galvanizing truth of the importance of not silencing dissent, which is sweeping France. What is Political Correctness anyway, if it isn’t being too contrived and convoluted to be able to withstand scrutiny?
If you go to website statistics on Alexa.com sometime, plug in a few of the lefty websites and note the nations where they are popular. One in particular I found to be #14 in Afghanistan, which is odd, don’t you think?
“The notion that bullies are always cowards is sadly untrue. The world would be a much nicer place if it were.”
Agree. The terrorists are not cowards. The COWARDS are the people that unwilling to identify them and their kind - the people unwilling to PROFILE - the people unwilling to DEMAND that those that are brave (like the magazine people) be given firepower and training to fight back.
...and, ESPECIALLY, the people in the media that will not publish the cartoons because, they claim, it may “offend” some readers - when their entire reason for existence is to “offend” people in various ways. It would like the Houston Chronicle saying that they won’t report on the Tom Delay trial because it might offend their Tea Party readers.
“A pretty boneheaded comment though.”
Agree...you aid and abet with statements like his. Now ISIS can run around saying they’re equivalent to our founding fathers - based on a major US political figure making that statement.
Yes, the trains did run on time in Nazi Germany, but no, you don’t go slaughtering Jews to improve Amtrak schedule performance.
I think it’s a great comment to portray an obvious contrast. The American Left accepts Islam and vociferously defends Muslim terrorists’ right to “express” of their belief. Carson points out that if Islamists are will to die for something we conservatives know is vile, how can we who have a better message sit on the sidelines while we are vilified and silenced? He’s saying “How strongly do you hold your beliefs in the American way? Is it worth fighting and even dying for?”
I’m sorry but Carson is just not presidential material. He’s a great doctor and he loves his country but that does not a president make.
Raise your hand if you think America is looking for anybody other than a good looking white guy for President in 2016. I think the experiment is over for most people.
I wouldn’t vote for him for President, but I think it’s nice that our side has African-Americans, Hispanics, and women showing up to debates and the Dems are all old, white males.
That’s nice ‘optics’ for our party.
Naively I was hoping the ONE good thing about Obama being elected was that the race card and Sharpton game was over. How can you play victim when you’ve got the presidency? Instead, things have gotten worse.
It’s not FREEDOM they are willing to die for; it’s the false promise of being able to repeatedly deflower their 72 virgins for eternity.
