Chris Christie, odd man out?
Politico ^ | January 14, 2015 | Ben White and Maggie Haberman

As Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush engage in an increasingly bitter fight over big donors and fundraisers, another Republican eyeing the presidency could get squeezed out: Christopher James Christie. The New Jersey governor is suddenly moving quickly to build a campaign infrastructure in the wake of announcements by Romney and Bush that they are exploring White House bids. Christie has brought on a finance chairman, is launching a leadership PAC and is heading to Iowa for a cattle call later this month. A big chunk of his State of the State speech this week was about the rest of the country.

Christie is a wannabe Establishment Republican . He supports all the right things but but he is not part of the Club.

Can you imagine listening to Chris Christie’s rantings and self-important buffoonery for an entire presidential campaign?

I agree that Christie will drop out of the race early if he's up against Jeb and Mitt. He'd be the Rudy Giuliani of the 2016 primaries.

The good news is that Jeb and Mitt will probably stay in the race until the bitter end, because the loyalties of the RNC political machine will be about evenly divided between the two. The Roveite courtiers of the Bush clan will throw everything they have behind Jeb, while the old Romney team will do the same for Mitt.

With the liberal GOP vote split, a conservative alternative has a good chance of winning the nomination, assuming that conservatives will coalesce early around a single candidate, as opposed to splitting the vote in more directions than the liberals.

Yea just wait.
The Huckster and Santorum will eventually join the fun and play spoiler.
They are reliable like that.
I hope I’m wrong, but you can usually count on the GOPE getting the math right before they get their people seated.

Maybe, but they'd take as many votes from Bush and Romney as they would from someone like Ted Cruz.

Why would Mitt be so motivated to help conservatives against the establishment? I agree that the net result of Mitt is (thank God) derailing a Jeb nomination and helping the conservative alternatives, but I doubt Mitt has any conscious interest in the latter.

Maybe, but between them Jeb and Mitt have frozen Chris Christie out of the money derby. So Chris goes, then Mitt goes, and that leaves Jeb, which may have been the idea all along.

The good news is he thinks he's all that. Why? Who knows? The important thing is that the GOPe has lost control of the RINO herd, and they may have three candidates... or more.

Providence may be on Cruz' side.
