First, I read the earlier report.
I did not say that is what the pilots of the AirAsia flight said. It said this is what they have heard in OTHER incidents.
It doesn’t say they heard it in this article either. The title does, but I do not believe this is correct.
I may be wrong, as it may be what they said, but I think this article is misleading.
A big difference.
The former is a simple statement of belief.
The latter (allah is greater) is rejection of, and supremacy over, anyone else's religion, particularly Judaism and Christianity.
Exactly. If you read the article closely, it implies that they HAVE NOT LISTENED TO THE CVR YET. They are relating their ‘fears’ about what they might hear.
They said this after the Airbus computer said to them - you got the stick,Captain!
Even if it were it is not necessarily significant. A man facing certain death who holds religious belief is likely to shout something referencing God. A Christian might start The Lord’s Prayer. A Catholic Christian might start the Act of Contrition. A Muslim might very well praise his God upon facing eternity. Without other evidence, if this actually is true, it means very little.
A needless overreaction.
Hundreds of very useful and educational threads are posted on FR every year, based on rumor or premature information. Even those are useful.
No. You don't just flip a switch and play back the recording like it's an MP3 player. The official in this article is describing what he heard on other CVRs. It's just that the original article was 'translated' and lost a little in translation. Then, someone on YAHOO picked it up and posted it with this MISLEADING title.
NO. The way to handle it is to have it shown so we can expose it.
WHAT the CVR disk may have on it HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED to the public yet.
What the pilots were really saying...”Alohasnackbar!”, “Alohasnackbar!”...
Which is why this article is MISLEADING. The title is WRONG. If you read it closely, they never say that THESE pilots said that phrase, only others in previous accidents.
The story does not match the headline.
They are not talking about QZ8501’s recorder, but recordings in general where the pilots realize they are going to die.
Matter of fact, no one YET knows that they may have said or not. The author of this article misread the first article which was translated into English from something else, and the 'tenses' have led to confusion by readers.
AFAIK, the 'black box' has not been even 'opened' yet.
Michael, you need to learn the difference between “avert” and “avoid” for starters.
Misquoting officials is also no way to make a name for yourself in journalism unless you want to be of the “journolist”/Jerry Rivers variety.
Here is a link to the original ARTICLE which YAHOO posted.

It seems to have lost a bit in translation, but here is the LAST SENTENCE which indicates that they have not listened to the CVR yet(or the transcribing of it).
I do not believe this report. Allah Akubar as the last words, please I thought it would be “I can’t breathe because I am drowning” But what do I know when the plane landed in rough seas and was torn apart as it was sinking, and the current in the Java Sea has been tossing the plane around for two weeks and the recorders were just found. I think the report is as real as Obama’s Birth Certificate
The likely candidates for my last words are: “Here, hold my drink”, “Watch this”, or “Holy shit”.
Agreed, but there’s also rumor and fear-mongering. Nobody knows what those people said, either in the plane or in the cockpit, because the voice recorder data hasn’t been either processed or released yet.
Things are bad enough, we don’t need to make them worse and make ourselves look like hysterical fools in the process.
Explain to me the difference between moderates and radicals that our political elite cite so often when all members of this religion chant, ‘Allahuakbar’, in the face of tragedy.
Yes, it should.
