The larger-than-life Russian leader has held power — with one title or another — for 15 years, and is set to reign for at least a decade more. Yet Putin remains inscrutable.

With only a smattering of biographical details released to the public and his sometimes puzzling public appearances, scholars — and even many world leaders — still struggle to understand the man at the helm of the Kremlin.

To glean a clearer picture, FRONTLINE took a closer look at some of the most identifiable aspects of Putin’s public persona. --------------------------------------------------------- Putin’s Way, FRONTLINE’s investigation into the accusations of criminality and corruption that have surrounded Vladimir Putin’s reign in Russia, premieres tonight on-air and online at 10 pm EST (check local listings).

Lord Acton said, "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely." Putin has put himself above the law.

I watched it tonight. It’s wonderfully explicit about what a b>>>>>d Putin is. To cut to the chase, this former KGB officer now has an estimated $40 billion net worth.

Last week I also saw a Charlie Rose/PBS interview with Mikhail Khodorkovsky, former Russian oligarch and richest man in Russia until he was thrown into a gulag in Siberia for ten years for stepping on Putin’s toes. Khodorkovsky was in the Putin show for a couple of minutes. He is an extremely brilliant and interesting fellow, something of a threat to Putin, and if you see anything else coming up about him, please let me know. He lives in Europe now and is advocating “Open Russia.” Russia, under Putin, is headed in the opposite direction from open.

More on Khodorkovsky:

You can watch it at the link. I highly recommend it for anyone with an open mind, those not blindly duped by president for life Putin’s disinformation campaign.

Just to complete the picture of Putin/Khodorkovsky relationship, here’s a quote from the wikipedia article on Khodorkovsky that sums up what might make this an interesting situation to watch:

“In February 2003, at a televised meeting at the Kremlin, (seen, in part, on tonight’s PBS Putin show) Khodorkovsky argued with Putin about corruption. He implied that major government officials were accepting millions in bribes. In early 2012, prior to the Russian presidential election, the writer and activist Masha Gessen wrote that Khodorkovsky and Putin had both underestimated each other. “During his eight years in confinement, Khodorkovsky has become Russia’s most trusted public figure and Putin’s biggest political liability. As long as Putin rules Russia and Khodorkovsky continues to act like Khodorkovsky, Khodorkovsky will remain in prison—and Putin will remain terrified of him.”

It's a good insight, especially for those who see Putin as some type of benign authoritarian dedicated to Christian values and a stalwart defender of liberal excesses.

Suddenly because what PBS produces fits someones’ agenda we’re to take it at face value?

Not buying it.

What part are you not taking at face value? Are you under the impression that Putin is not corrupt? And do you think he's jailed those who've tried to expose him because he's not corrupt? Who would you believe if they exposed Putin? What agenda do you think there is in keeping politicians honest (something you oppose, like good government)?

I agree. Does Obama putting himself above the law make Putin’s doing it okay, a childish sort of two wrongs make a right?

I’m sure he does, which doesn’t make Putin’s crimes any less significant.

So you’re giving credibility to all the other garbage POS has produced because you’re using FR as a soapbox for your, and others here, personal agenda.

Glad we could clear that up.

By the way, there is NOTHING more offensive than what you wrote about me “opposing good government”.

Use of Alinsky tactics is a ploy of progressives.

...just to be clear...

At one point in the show, it said people used money to get elected to the Duma and then used their position to enrich those who helped them get elected. I just can't imagine politicians rewarding their friends and punishing their enemies. </sarcasm>
