I believe we are seeing the beginning of the end of Jewish history in Europe. What makes the situation in Europe unique in history is the fact that Europe has become very intolerant of identities in a multicultural and post-nationalist environment.
This new antisemitism is very connected to Israel — demonisation, delegitimisation and double-standards — and is now so deep in the core of European political and intellectual leaders that practically every Jew is being asked to choose between being loyal to Israel and loyal to Europe.
That insecurity is due to Muslim immigration and the rise of the classical right, which sees the Jews as the “other”.
The liberal, intellectual Europe where Jews historically felt so comfortable is now asking them to choose between Israel and “us”.
These three factors are bringing us to the situation where unprecedented numbers of Jews in the free world are moving to Israel. This year, one per cent of the French Jewish community will make aliyah.
I see this as a historical moment — as the beginning of the process of distancing Jews from Europe.
Europe is abandoning its identities, with the multicultural idea that there will be no such things as nation-states or religion. In post-identity Europe, there is less and less space for Jews for whom it is important to have both identity and freedom. In Europe, it is becoming more difficult to have both.

As an American, I would welcome European Jews...they’d be a super addition of talent to our country.
But again, this place isn’t safe anymore...or at least...this place does not have a safe future anymore...
and whether it will or not depends so greatly on events not yet assured...not by a long shot...
such as your mention of our possibly getting another “Muzzie lover” in the WH. Remember that the “Muzzies’ were flooding in here under Clinton and Bush, too... and please note that there are several prominent candidates for President who appear to have some strong Arabian or Islamic financial backing...and/or associations/proclivities/sympathies.
No, USA is not a safe haven looking forward. European Jews will be far better off in Israel where they’re prepared to defend themselves. But at any event, they...and events...will decide... and no doubt some will come here.

Jews are in many places in USA already having to deploy defense patrols or hire professional security services to protect their houses of worship, community buildings, libraries, schools, and yes sometimes even themselves personally.

You are apparently not fully informed as to the current deteriorating conditions in USA. (The Jews who are under these pressures, and the police departments advising them, are keeping the problems fairly quiet so this is quite understandable. Some Christian churches and facility buildings are similarly having to beef up security against attacks from the same threatening source... There are federal and now some state security assessement and.or funding programs actively working on this as we type...
But please don’t try to ascribe any complex motivations to anything I type to you....I am typing just what I mean to say ...thanks!)

There’s safety in numbers, and what with the Jews we aready have here, it will make for lots more of them than Muzzies. What a wonderful idea. difficult to know when rational defensive steps ... may become an over-reaction... but many churches and synagogues have received threats and some have had IslamoNazi or just criminal or nutzoid attacks on their buildings and/or parishoners
so... many churches and synagogues have taken, or are taking, or are considering new...defensive measures of various kinds.
electronics alarm systems, volunteer lookouts and patrols, firearms training, member or staff or hired professional security services...you name it. Lots of approaches underway in different places...
could good intelligent immigrants still do well in USA, certainly (albeit our economy is in very sad shape these last five years).
could they find relatively safe communities in USA? Certainly!
But we are being rapidly ‘transformed’...and are no longer the ‘golden city on the hill’ ... we are being tarnished badly and pulled down the Abyss. Back ‘in the day’ this church/synagogue safety or security problem just wasn’t on the radar

It would help USA a lot to have them here.
Whether we can offer them quite as safe or pleasant an experience as we could in former times, though, is another matter.
I will not attempt to argue about it. It is just something that rabbis and pastors and priests are having to deal with, with their congregations....in today’s Transformed America, is all.

I do not question the issue of security, but do not deny the fact that Americans have bought guns and ammo the last couple of years either.
