This week I went online and changed my voter registration from Republican to Unaffiliated. Didn't see the point and it felt good. Anyone else?

Our state laws don’t require us to register.

Depends on whether your state has open primaries. In Michigan, you don’t need to declare a party to vote in the primaries, but you can only vote one side of the ticket or the other.
Unless its during a year when the parties decide to hold caucuses instead of an open primary vote.
So therefore you can’t vote for Ted Cruz or another conservative in the primary, thus strengthening the position of GOPe candidates.
I re-registered as an independent after the last presidential election. Much less junk mail.
If that's how it pans out [again] in 2016, I won't be voting for a "who." I'll be voting for a "what."
Folks who vote for Jeb in that scenario in order to vote "against" Clinton will advance only one thing with their votes: Republican embrace of the Democrat agenda.
I'd love to vote for a "who," a charismatic populist Christian conservative, and by "conservative" I mean "advocates for conservative use of government. Less government. "Conservative," as in "uses sparingly." I think such a candidate would do well. Everyone wants less government, or nearly everyone. Most Americans want to live righteously, morally, and prosperously, without government enslaving them on their every move. Government in its octopus monster "servant" force self, strangles prosperity and morality to boot.
It's supposed to be a servant. Now it's a tyrant. It is a force that must be cut back to "servant" status. If God blesses us with such a third-party charismatic person, the message that WILL resonate with actual on-the-ground Americans aplenty.
But I'm not holding my breath. I figure I'll be voting to make it so whichever leftist (R) or (D) bastard wins, will be weak. I'll be voting third party even if I know darned well the candidate will lose. I'll be voting to weaken whichever operative Democrat gets the White House. The Perot plurality split hurt Clinton. Both times he was elected, most voters opposed him -- his popularity reflects his standing with the media. America voted differently, and it hurt him and helped conservatives. The Republican Revolution kicked butt, and Clinton was impeached!
When a Republican votes for a leftist Republican who accepts the Democrat world-view of Government Government Everywhere, they are voting to turn the Republican party left. They endorse it and grant it power. They may intend to vote "against" the Democrat, but their action is to move the Republican party left.
Screw that! I have a duty to vote -- to decline to vote when you have a real option is a dereliction of duty. I have a duty to vote, so I will vote for what I want to WIN. If the best I can do is to fracture it into a plurality, that's how I'll vote.
Voting "against" is a fairy tale.
That was my point. The Republican legislature did the redistricting. They could have saved Col. West’s district; but instead pushed him into another, more Democrat district PLUS his old seat went to a Democrat.
My bad on the Grayson comparison; even though Grayson’s district was redrawn to make it more Democrat. So, net effect is Florida got 2 new seats in 2010 - both wound up with Democrats. AND Tea Party favorite Col. West was booted to the curb.
After 32yrs as an *R*, I dropped it and changed to *Conservative*, when I updated driver’s license at PA DMV, 4yrs ago. It was 3rd choice on screen #2 electronic form, at DMV office, and I vote in all primaries, general and midterm elections.
Send them $1 a year. It will cost them more than a dollar to process your "donation", then they'll keep wasting money on you with solicitations for years. Bleed them, for a change. YOu can also take their post-paid envelopes, wrap them around a brick, and mail them back.
I did it before the 2006 election, and I also returned all the postage paid envelopes back to the RINO party empty for several years until they finally stopped sending them.
The only reason I haven’t dropped affiliation is to ensure I can engage in primaries - sometimes you remove the chance to have any influence when the affiliation is dropped - probably different State-by-State.
