The Washington political classes do not understand you.
If you are a Democrat, they assume you're a pure progressive. They take for granted that you consider climate change a religion, think immigration should be a free pass for everyone, support entry-level people jumping past entry-level pay, think fairness is an entitlement provided by government through executive order, and believe socialized health care is the greatest achievement this country has accomplished.
If you are a Republican, they assume that you carry a gun every time you walk out the door, that you hate women, gays, blacks and Hispanics, and that you regularly attend tea party meetings to plot how to overthrow the government.
If you are a libertarian, they think you smoke pot and that is about all they've got on you.
If you're an independent, you basically are a pain in their egos because you mess up their conventional wisdom or smart takes and make it harder and harder to accurately predict elections from their environmentally friendly green offices and coffeehouses in the District of Columbia and New York City.
In short, they believe too much of their own writing and social-media quips; they are so disconnected from normal Americans' lives that they fail to understand who we are, so they go with self-created stereotypes instead...

If the leftist elites still believe that the USA is the sole obstacle to world socialism, they won’t stop destroying it.
Louis XVI was like that at Versailles, and that attitude didn't get him a head.

90% of Congress and essentially all of the administration are not “public servants” working on our behalf. They are in it only for themselves and their pet agendas.
It’s not that they don’t “understand” us, it’s that they don’t really care what we think.
Stereotypes, deafness past the limits of the Beltway (or maybe they can only 'hear' as far as K street), listening to the MSM...
It is like it only takes a month or so for them to forget who sent them there, and even more importantly, why.
But that picture may be distorted for them by the legions of professional staffers who are doubtless exerting more influence than the constituents--because they serve as the ultimate information filters, right down to what the folks back home think, if that even matters if it isn't an election year.
The impression from the cheap seats is that they lie about what they are going to do, go to DC and do what they please, check the polls before we go to the polls so they know what lies will placate the masses, and then, if reelected, go right back to bidness as usual.
Yes, we are only the vehicles they use to assume power. Power over us. They ask for our votes and financial support to get elected, then once in office, they turn on us, grind us down with onerous laws and regulations, and enrich themselves beyond imagination.
This nonsense where the heads of the Republicrats think they can govern by appeasing 50.1% of the voting population is ridiculous.
I heard the most disturbing commercial yesterday pitching ObamaCare (it sounded like one of the state-sponsored plans, possibly for NY); the propagandist/sales bimbo went through some “frequently asked questions”, and didn’t miss a beat when describing that health insurance was now required for everyone. As I heard that, I wondered how many people were realizing for the first time how this expensive new tax was going to impact them (thankfully I’m OK - for now).
This is not a stereotype, this is reality.
This is a stereotype and is not based on reality.
This is taxation without representation to a high degree.
Unfortunately, I’ve come to the same assessment.
Also unfortunately, we appear to be headed for the future of which you speak.
To me, it’s the Great Silent Majority that’s re-asserting itself that is the core of the Tea Party and the Reagan-democrats that showed up in November and/or stayed home... and are turning their backs to de Blasio, O., Holder, etc. Keep up the good work!
If distrust fuels the populist movement, what fuels distrust? And how can that be, when governmental institutions, politicians, campaigns, cronies are as honest and pure as the piles of snow up here in the Northwoods?
