SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket was lifted upright on Cape Canaveral’s Complex 40 launch pad Monday after workers loaded time-sensitive supplies and research specimens into the Dragon cargo craft’s pressurized cabin. More than 3,700 pounds of gear will be delivered to the International Space Station on the mission.

The 208-foot-tall rocket is set for liftoff Tuesday at 6:20 a.m. EST (1120 GMT).

No problem.

Someone else explained to me what happened.

The hydraulic actuators in the second stage weren’t at the correct angles. They are what directs the engine bell to move and steer the rocket. Somehow, the actuators moved from where they were supposed to be (drift), so it could’ve thrown the vehicle off course.

Best to get it right when it counts. I’ll TRY to be up on Friday. It’s another day off for me, but I’d have to be up at 2am Pacific to watch this. *groan*

Aha, I wondered what it meant.

Hey, this *is* rocket science.

I’m not sure but I think it has to do with leaking cylinders. A hydraulic cylinder refers to an actuator device, or device used to move or control a mechanism, that converts hydraulic energy into linear mechanical energy. Performing a drift test for a malfunctioning hydraulic cylinder can pinpoint the cause of an operational problem.

Europe has been so alarmed by the California company's progress that it [Europe] has ordered a new, lower-cost version of its Ariane rocket.

Two items: competition works and who is Europe?

I love this interview. It would be enormously satisfying to do what Elon does in this interview, to go to a competitor's venue and just publicly declare that they have no chance to compete with him. And be right.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk_ Europe's rocket has no chance.

I wish he didn’t suck at the US teat, but he’s brilliant and brash. Two characteristics that in the 19th century said, “American” to the entire world. We could use some of that.

I love competition and believe it’s a near cure-all for what ails America and the world.

If central planners are so smart, then why aren’t they rich? Why aren’t they the best business people in the world? Why are they wasting their talent working for government 9-5 when they could be rich and on a beach some where?

Did you see Bill Gate’s first down payment on terraforming?

We try it out first on islands and deserts and refugee camps. Then out into the solar system, perhaps Mars.
