Mayor Bill de Blasio, Commissioner William Bratton tout lower crime rates
WABC7 ^ | January 5, 2015

NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio touted new crime statistics Monday, one day after members of the NYPD once again turned their backs on him.

The mayor spoke with police commissioner William Bratton, hailing big drops in the murder and robbery rates.

At the funeral of officer Wen Jian Liu Sunday, some officers turned their backs when de Blasio spoke, claiming the mayor doesn't have their back amid growing anti-police sentiment, despite a memo from Bratton asking the officers refrain from acts of protest.

De Blasio has tried repeatedly to close the divide.

"Rather than get lost in the daily back and forth by the loudest and most disrespectful voices, those that have been so loud in recent weeks, let's talk about where we need to go as a city," he said. "Let's talk about a positive vision. Let's talk about what the people of this city want us to do together."

It’s amazing how fast the crime rate drops when the cops stop enforcing the law.

NYC mayor: Cops’ gesture at funerals disrespectful to families

NEW YORK — Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the police officers who turned their back during the funerals of two slain police officers were “disrespectful to the families who lost loved ones” as well as to the people of New York City who hold them in high regard.

That was such a bizarre news conference, which only served to prove that Kaiser Wilhelm is incapable of apologizing to the NYPD officers or reinstating stop and frisk.

Attention liberals: If you believe de Blasio and Bratton, you're stupider than I thought. The thugs, muggers, bandits and killers are about to make these two idiots ear their words. Welcome to NYC of Mayor David Dinkins.

The “crime rates” will be dropping drastically soon, as in, there will be so few arrests. Sort of like 0bama and deporting illegals, right?

Hmm ...

Rachel Noerdlinger has a new job — in the private sector.

The public relations pro — who worked for the Rev. Al Sharpton and then Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray — started work Monday as a managing director at Mercury Public Affairs.

They probably only need half the cops they have right now. Lay off 18,000 cops and use the savings to pay off the debt. This Mayor could really change things for New York if they had that extra money from the police department.

I suspect pensions are the lion’s share of the cop cost. Good luck touching those.

Here’s a question: With the slowdown in the NYPD enforcing non-violent crimes have the rates of police shootings and claims of excessive force dropped?

The bankruptcy courts have made clear that pensions for public employees are on the table during municipal bankruptcies.

No need to touch the pensions. There is absolutely no reason for a guy who was promised a pension in exchange for work should lose any pensions. Any change to pensions should be made for the guy starting work the following day. In fact, the company who gave a pension should take care of people on pensions before stock holders in my opinion and I have stocks and still want the workers to be taken care of first. Our companies have gone nuts and totally screwing the workers and it must stop. It has been that way since the 80s.

I have to disagree with you when it comes to public sector unions.

If some former politicians promised our tax dollars for votes in the form of over-generous pensions, the taxpayer should have some form of recourse to see that those pensions are adjusted according to the ability of the government to pay, without further pillaging from the taxpayer.
