JERUSALEMIn a speech on New Years day, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for a religious revolution in Islam that would displace violent jihad from the center of Muslim discourse.
Is it possible that 1.6 billion people (Muslims worldwide) should want to kill the rest of the worlds populationthat is, 7 billion peopleso that they themselves may live? he asked. Impossible.
Speaking to an audience of religious scholars celebrating the birth of Islams prophet, Mohammed, he called on the religious establishment to lead the fight for moderation in the Muslim world. You imams (prayer leaders) are responsible before Allah. The entire worldI say it again, the entire worldis waiting for your next move because this umma (a word that can refer either to the Egyptian nation or the entire Muslim world) is being torn, it is being destroyed, it is being lostand it is being lost by our own hands.
He was speaking in Al-Azhar University in Cairo, widely regarded as the leading world center for Islamic learning.
The corpus of texts and ideas that we have made sacred over the years, to the point that departing from them has become almost impossible, is antagonizing the entire world. You cannot feel it if you remain trapped within this mindset. You must step outside yourselves and reflect on it from a more enlightened perspective.
Sisi was a little known general when he was appointed over the heads of fellow officers in 2012 as commander of the Egyptian army by then President Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood. The religiosity of Sisi was said then to have been one of the reasons for the choice. However, when a popular uprising broke out the following year, Sisi swiftly ousted Morsi from power and brought charges against him,

Is this man a closet Christian?
That doesn’t even make sense—Islam IS jihad. There’s just no way around that undeniable truth. I say nuke them to Kingdom come.
It may take 100 years and many wars, but Islam needs its reformation.
Sisi is calling out the muslim scholars to start.
That’s a good start, 12+ years after 9/11/2001.
God bless this man.
“Chop the necks of the neck choppers! Oh, wait...”
"Correct me if I'm wrong, Commodore, but aren't more Mooselimbs killed by other Mooselimbs than anyone else? Which Mooselimb sect do you endorse?"
—amen—
Speech made at the same place Obama made his apology speech to the Muslim World on behalf of the United States. What a contrast.
**thumbs up**
I never thought I would see the day when the president of Egypt is a better friend to freedom than the president of the United States. In our White House is a vile, evil man. May he be gone soon!
I really hope I am wrong, but I give him about six months before some fanatic offs him.
It's Bizarro world; where, in Soviet Amerika, freedom is slavery to government. Ya?
Don’t our progressives hate Sisi? He prevented an ISIS-like takeover of Egypt. If he really wants peace and tolerance, our far left will want to undermine him in favor of the Jihadists. It is amazing how when a rare, truly moderate leader appears in the Muslim world, the leftists all hate him.
The only way to reform Islam to to take out the Jihad, Sharia and all references to/from Mad Mo’.
Doesn’t help that Sisi was military and saved Egypt through a military coup.
They probably don’t want our military getting ideas...
Since every word in the Koran was delivered from Allah to Mad Mo’ via the “angel” Jibriel (a false flag operation if I have ever heard of one...), any such revision would be blasphemous.
The Christian reformation came about by the common man having access to the written word in their own languages and a movement began to follow the Bible as written.
Islam does not need a reformation it needs to be destroyed. You can not reform islam unless you rewrite the koran and surahs. Not going to happen. The truth about Islam needs to be told proclaimed, every revolting aspect of the religion from slavery of women to killing of non-muslims to be reviled and mocked constantly until it is gone.
