Second NYPD officer honored at funeral; officers again turn backs on Mayor de Blasio

Police, public officials and mourners from across the country gathered Sunday to honor a detective killed last month in an act of violence that has roiled New York City, with a large number of officers again making their frustrations with the city’s mayor apparent by turning their backs on him as he paid tribute to the slain officer.

Defying a request from Police Commissioner William Bratton, the strident display of protest began as Mayor Bill de Blasio took the podium at the Aievoli Funeral Home in Brooklyn to eulogize Detective Wenjian Liu, reinforcing entrenched feelings of hostility that have gripped the department in the weeks since Liu and Detective Rafael Ramos were fatally shot without warning on a Brooklyn street.

In highly controversial remarks, union leaders have criticized the mayor for expressing support for demonstrations against police brutality and accused him of fostering an environment that encourages attacks on police officers.

Was Deblasio actually live? Or was it Memorex from a different podium?

You can’t shame someone who has none and De Blasio has no shame.. This is serious. The NYPD is the largest police force in the world and deals with things on a daily basis few other police forces do. Two of its members gunned down by a low-life vicious punk egged on by a rabble of anarchists, Marxists and thugs, i.e, the City Council of New York and this utter dirtbag of a mayor. Without the support of the NYPD no mayor can effectively govern the city and if the police aren’t safe, no one is. The seriousness of this, beside the murder of police officers, is the social breakdown of an already fractured city but if unchanged, business, anxious about safely conducting business and concerned for the safety of their employees will leave and go elsewhere.

I don’t think anyone would blame the police if they went on strike until de Blasio resigned. The jackwad has blood on his hands.

No working police officer will ever trust or respect De Blasio. Only they fully understand how this man made their jobs almost unbearable and much more dangerous. This man is a lifelong leftist who routinely travelled in circles that called the police pigs. The minute a police officer was vulnerable, he threw him under the bus. He rubbed salt in the wound when he publicly repeated the story how he instructed his son that the police were likely to cause him harm. He publicly embraced the vile Al Sharpton and made him the de facto police commissioner. He even defended the “rights” of the AL Sharpton lead protestors who called for the death of police. The cops were not surprised when this hostile atmosphere actually resulted in the murder of two of their brethren. Liberals have their panties in a twist raging how the cops are being disrespectful to the duly elected mayor. Of course their disrespect of GW Bush is not to be referenced or recalled. They will really get upset when crime begins to soar and NYC real estate values begin to decline. Then the amoral big money donors to De Blasio will really be upset. You reap what you sow.

The brotherhood HAD to offer this protest irrespective of the Commish’s wishes because they had done so for Officer Lui’s partner.

If you do it for one you have to do it for the other.

Obviously. As I said, this is a serious situation. I worked in NYC. It is the not the city where the police can not be in control because things will go south in a heartbeat.

It may already be happening, "unofficially". I read that citations in NYC went from (approx) 25,000 per day down to 2,000 since these two officers were killed.

I saw my sister-in-law today — while not “raging”, she’s a liberal, for sure. She was exclaiming her love of NYC but also lamenting the stupidity of deBlasio and how he’s going to “completely mess it up right back to the ‘70s”, whereas “Guiliano made it a place EVERYone wanted to go.”

all that really needs to go on strike is the mayor’s security brigade.

“It is the not the city where the police can not be in control because things will go south in a heartbeat. “

Maybe in the long run, it would be a good thing for NYC to “reap the benefits” of their decisions as voters. Outside it’s lower Manhattan core, it’s a $hit hole, and their “sewage outfall” in across the Hudson in New Joisey.

I even heard Chrisy say on one of his shows, Guiliano performed a miracle in bringing back New york city to a decent city to live in, even times square. That was a long time ago, but it still shocked me he would give props to the mayor...

Good point. Then De Blasio will see what the average unarmed New Yorker has to put up with.

No, you defiantly wouldn't want a full scale riot in NYC. When the power when out in 1977 it was like the sacking of Rome. And that was just a simple power outage. With the current state of affairs in NYC people will get killed, literally.

“With the current state of affairs in NYC people will get killed, literally.”

So what’s the answer? Someone here just suggested that in order to fix financials in NYC, “they should fire half the NYPD because there’ way too many of them.” I swear, with some people if you stood them parallel to a wall and shined a flashlight in one ear, you’d get a spot on the wall!

The answer is to do what Rudy Giuliani did and that was the ''broken windows'' policy. Stop the street crimes, the dope dealing, the car window washers(muggers really), use stop and frisk, it's called ''community policing'' and it works. I worked in NYC during the last year and a half of Kochs term and the place was a freaking zoo. I worked through the first year of Giulianis term and the difference was like night and day. The porn shops and porn theaters, the drug dealers and hookers were chased out of Times Square, Disney moved in and for the first time in decades families could walk around that area and enjoy themselves. Business came back and new business opened. It was as if the NYC had been reborn. This current mayor is nothing but a low-level Marxist dirtbag who is going to undo everything Guilani and Bloomberg did.

Agreed, but DeBlabla isn’t going to make peace with the NYPD because he’s an arrogant Commie, so I’ betting that crime is going to be on the upswing. A city that’s as full of human trash as is NYC, needs a strong LEO presence. The NYPD “keeps the lid on,” but not when they don’t have the support of the administration. The sad part of it is that the decent people are the one’s who will suffer.
