The CIA should be abolished.
After a trial run of 67 years, the agency has proven a sorcerers apprentice. The director and his subordinates have became insufferably arrogant Platonic Guardians hiding behind secrecy in the belief that the rest of us are too stupid or naive to judge what risks to accept to preserve liberty and the rule of law. The CIA has made Americans less safe.
Its incorrigible anti-democratic ethos was epitomized by legendary chief of counterintelligence James J. Angleton. He voiced contempt for the Church Committees investigation of chronic agency abuses, i.e., the Family Jewels. As reported in The New York Times, Angleton likened the CIA to a medieval city occupied by an invading army, i.e., the Congress of the United States. To the same effect, Director William J. Casey told Church Committee investigator Loch K. Johnson that the congressional role was to stay the [expletive] out of my business.
The CIA will never accept that it works for we the people and our representatives in Congress; and, that the United States Constitution and laws govern everything the CIA does. It will never accept accountability for its actions including torture, kidnappings, and extrajudicial killingsbecause it salutes the motto that the ends justify the means, that savagery is justified to defeat perceived savages.
The CIA is unAmerican. It sneers at our nations signature creed that it is better to risk being the victim of injustice than to be complicit in it.
President Harry Truman, father of the CIA in 1947, came to regret his offspring. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, former New York Democrat and former vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, introduced legislation in 1991 and 1995 to abolish the agency. Their views were not misplaced.

Who will commit the government ordered murders?
I remember a young president with the initials JFK that promised to scatter the cia into a thousand pieces. We all have seen where that got him.
Lets bring back the OSS—Where is a new Wild Bill Donivan when we need him! Or maybe have a US version of MI-6 That doesn’t exist (so they say). Give them more power to treat prisoners anyway they want—Lets investigate communists in the Media!
The answer is simple to me. CIA should be a spy agency only. All covert ops should be given to the Pentagon and Analysis handed to the NSA. Congress should pass legislation stating the head of CIA has to have been a station chief for at least ten years. No more political flunkies. Fire everyone else.
I wholly agree. However if one were to ponder what the most idiotic, egregious blunder ever was, I’d have to say the TSA, and its parent organization DHS myself.
Johnnie Mike Spann, RIP
CIA agent and first American casualty of the war in Afghanistan.
Without NSA, the CIA is blind; without the CIA the country is blind; without either the military is mostly useless ...
This whole NSA/CIA thing is a farce. A tempest in a teapot. NSA tracked and recorded me for years and nothing bad happened because of that. Most of the people here reacting to this issue have no idea what either agency actually does, but rather believe certain things which were highly publicized by leftists as their true mission, and, as a result, are all too ready to throw the whole thing out in some imaginary fit to protect liberties which do not exist.
Nature arbores a vacuum - take them away and something else will fill the vacancies - something from the Black World, no doubt. Something without any oversight at all.
Not to mention that at the top of Russia’s, China’s, and the Islamic world’s imaginary wish list is that those and certain other US agencies go away ... be careful what you wish for ...
“Abolish” is a big word with major consequences. I don’t believe it is our interest to eliminate the CIA or some of the other major departments in Washington that have become so poorly managed and/or are out of control. Those departments need to be completely “overhauled” and re-organized to make them what they were originally intended to be. There are LOTS of places to attack in gubmint without cutting of your nose to spite your face.
Its time to abolish the fed govt totally. Its pure evil headed up by the traitors Bush clan. Puppets of foreign govts.
See Missouri to realize this govt is the enemy of us all.
See running in million of illegals to vote for their Banana govt fearing the natives would not continue to support them. We must oppose this govt and not try to reform it. Yes be active and vote. But always have subverging in mind to bring it down as we know it.
They continue to steal the money from the treasury .
Raise your children to dislike this govt.
I should say most things the feds do shoukd be stopped. When i say work to change I mean for true conservatives to take control. At this time I do support the CIA. But not all they do.
>> In the world we now live in, if we didnt have a CIA, wed have to invent one <<
Ditto for the NSA: An agency that snoops on foreign countries’ message traffic and that protects the USA’s encryption systems is absolutely essential in today’s hostile world environment. Bruce Fein and similar “libertarian” NSA-bashers like Andrew Napolitano are head-in-the-sand theoreticians whose distorted views on the 4th Amendment do a tremendous disservice to our national security.
>> Where is a new Wild Bill Donivan when we need him <<
Donovan was a “mixed blessing.” He and his OSS operatives did some great work against the Nazis. On the other hand, he had certain pro-Russian sentiments that made him unfit for USA intelligence work in the immediate post-WW2 period.
The director and his subordinates have became insufferably arrogant Platonic Guardians hiding behind secrecy in the belief that the rest of us are too stupid or naive to judge what risks to accept to preserve liberty and the rule of law.

There, fixed it.

Some of the CIA-bashers and NSA-bashers on FR are no doubt sincere patriots. They are good folks, but they appear to be confused and/or just ill-informed.
On the other hand I’m firmly convinced that at least some of the bashers and haters are trolls, who are sent over to FR either (a) from “progressive” sites like DU or (b) from the FSB’s cyber-warfare center in St. Petersburg.
It's Time to Abolish the Washington Times, if they keep printingf screed like that.
Oh, look! “The Most Creative Attorney in America” is another Rand Paul shill!
